    Default MMS Messages Very Small

People with iPhones who send me a picture somehow send me a tiny pic. Does this happen to anyone else?

Yes it happens to me occasionally. Not sure what causes it.

Yes it really does. It doesn't happen all the time, though. It's weird and I can't even nail down when it happens specifically.

i seem to get it if the person with an iPhone sends me a screen cap of there phone.

I think its due to the resolution of the camera and size of the picture they are taking and sending. It seems to be consistent here also. I noticed the size of the image coming from the I phone was smaller then my default images and resolution of my Android evo lte.

This happens almost every time my wife sends me a screen cap from her phone.

She has the same phone as me, the OneX.......

Yes, I do believe we've narrowed it down to screen caps. Both of my friends sent me a screen cap and it came up tiny as hell... it's 2kb in size.

Sending a thumbnail rather than the full image is my guess.

I noticed that mine started doing it after this most recent update.

I wish HTC would let us specify the quality/compression of pics to send via mms. Send one via email then MMS to see how bad it really is. I had no idea for a while. If I can send 600KB per MMS then it shouldn't automatically reduce a pic to around 40KB. Not all of us need to send to send a slide show of pics per MMS. It makes us look like we have low quality cameras.

Any resolution to this very annoying problem?

Keeps doing it. All my friends with iPhones think my phone is dumb. :/

Until HTC acknowledges their issue, try Image Shrink Lite from the Play Store. It works well to keep pics looking good. Screenshot of my settings attached. You choose it first instead of gallery then share as normal.

I have this happen when people send me pictures from their iPhone but also my brother has an HTC Vivid and a screen cap he sent me was small as well. Super weird.

I have an HTC Incredible 4g and all screencaps received from my friend's EVO are tiny as well.

Here's an example of one I opened from within my native SMS app:

This is not an htc issue.

Look guys, the carriers arbitrarily compress and resize images being sent via mms. They have always done this. Its common knowledge.

If the mms goes from one carrier to another its likely to be reduced more.

Here are two different screen shot of the details of mms images from my friend's HOX, opened with the gallery, then display details :

Note that the size differs between that one and this one even though the images are the same resolution.

These were both sent and received on at&t using the international version of the One X.

MMS has no rules. Carriers can do pretty much what they want.

I receive tons of pics from an AT&T BlackBerry 8910 that aren't reduced to tiny crappy resolution, so I doubt it's only AT&T's fault.

I agree, If this were simply a MMS compression issue, similar results would occur when sending any image, not just screen shots as it seems everyone is confirming.

The screenshots i get are coming across as 25 X 40, tiny 1.4 kb png files, but the ones i take are 720 x 1280 182 kb png files.

sending these from HTC One X to Iphone 4S they are fine, but any screenshot that sent iphone 4s to htc one x is too small to see.

maybe cross device issue with screenshots. What is different from a png taken on one device vs another?

All the screen caps I get from iPhone users come in looking super tiny like thumbnails.
if I try to zoom in on them they just become bigger but extremely blurry.

I'm on the HTC One X with ATT and this is happening with the built in messenger. With GO SMS Pro, the screen caps open full size, however, they are way too blurry to use.

MMS can be really important because I get screen caps of important messages people forward to me that way from iOS, like from family members. Now they're going to have to start e-mailing them.

I know you tried Go already, but have you tried Handcent? I see other threads out there on this issue (for lots of phones, but always from iphone), but the chatter doesn't seem to jive exactly with what you guys are seeing. Supposedly android compresses MMS by defualt, and Handcent doesn't. They also say that Go would not do that, but you note that it does, so take that for what it is worth.

I did see lots of talk about a USER AGENT that the MMS app reports to the network, that the network uses to determine what your phone can handle. The link below, which I in no way give any sort of seal of approval for (just found it from here- ) certainly seems to imply that Softbank modified the stock MMS (Android stock, not HTC stock, but should work) to include the correct user agent to allow pics from iphones. Sounds relevant, so I would give it a shot along with Handcent. I do not have a stock device handy atm, but is there a USER AGENT anywhere in settings?

I have the same problem on my One X with screen shots and also memes sent from the Rage Face app. This is extremely annoying, is there any hope of improvement?

I know this is a fairly old post however, I have been having the same problem. I have found that if you crop the screenshot, even slightly it sends fine. The same with receiving, if my friends (iPhone - Verizon) or my husband (Android HTC OneX - AT&T) crop their screen shots slightly it comes through normal and easily readable. So I have just got into the habit of cropping my screen shots a tad
