Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
Is HTC aware of this issue as a whole? I mean sure, switching to wifi at night may resolve the issue as a bandaid solution, but if it's the LTE signal that's flawed and causing this issue, it's a fundamental flaw in the design of the phone (and perhaps the digital signal itself). Does anyone know if HTC's been made aware of this problem?
Incidentally, this isn't just an AT&T issue. I'm in Canada. Same bands as AT&T, but a whole different carrier... and I had this problem once, too. - 11-07-2012, 05:58 PM #53

Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
Yes its still an issue and a very irritating one at that. You never know when your phone might switch off. Planning to write a mail to HTC with the link to this thread to let them know about the problem. Has anyone tried contacting HTC?

Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
I may have missed it, but have you tried exchanging the phone? Through where you bought it or through HTC? Pretty sure it has a 1 yr warranty...

Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
Exchanging the phone will not help if it happens on a lot of them.
I have had this happen about 3 or 4 times since I got the phone a couple months ago.
I think I have mostly fixed the problem by getting rid of the weather/clock widget that comes stock, and shutting off GPS, and Turning on Airplane mode when I'm at work. - 11-15-2012, 07:41 AM #57
Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
@erwaso - missed to mention that after I started facing this issue I contacted AT&T and they agreed to send me a replacement phone which I just got yesterday. I removed the sim from old phone to the replacement phone and went to sleep. I didn't have WiFi ON and the battery was 42%, today morning when I wake up, the phone in which SIM was present has switched off i.e. in the replacement phone as well I am facing the same issue. As Morgoroth said, the problem won't go away with the phone, there's something inside thats amiss.
Also one more thing that I would like to point out is when I switched on the phone after placing it on charging, and checked the battery history details - it says 9h32m on battery?? But i just switched it on and I haven't charged it since the time it arrived yesterday which is more than 12 hours.
@Morgoroth - I am new to Android, could you tell me what exactly do you mean by getting rid of weather/stock widget - have you removed it from the phone itself or are not just using it, because I have done the latter i.e. removed it from the display. - 11-15-2012, 10:20 AM #58
Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
Strange. I'm on my 2nd HOX and never had this specific issue. Mines an AT&T one x.

Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
I just took it off of the screen. I don't think you can uninstall it.@Morgoroth - I am new to Android, could you tell me what exactly do you mean by getting rid of weather/stock widget - have you removed it from the phone itself or are not just using it, because I have done the latter i.e. removed it from the display.
The problem is that I really like the clock, I wish there was a widget that had the clock without the weather.
Oh and if the weather is the problem then it will show up as the Internet or Google Maps draining the battery a lot.
At least, that is what happened to me.
The other thing was Cell Stand by eating the battery because I don't get reception at work. - 11-15-2012, 08:06 PM #61
Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
Just a duplicate post from another battery thread:
I just got a One X 3 weeks back and I was facing the same problem. My phone would hardly last 6 hours with continuous wifi and moderate browsing with screen time of around 3 hours. I was also compelled to buy the ultimate version of Juice Defender. After browsing some threads some people suggested getting rid of the weather widget. I have been experimenting with different settings since a few days and only today I got rid of the weather widget and installed the fancy widgets. Look at the difference it made
I am using a live wallpaper, auto sync, music on and also poor reception in the following screenshots.
This is after I installed Fancy widget and got rid of the default weather widget:

This is after I the got the weather widget back on the home screen

And this is after I removed the weather widget again.

My battery dropped from 84% to 80% in about 5 mins after getting the default weather widget on my home screen, whereas it remained on 85% without the widget for 46 mins(1st image)
Absolutely shocking how HTC still hasn't addressed this. I was contemplating returning this phone because of the **** poor battery life but thankfully I've found a fix after researching. I love this phone and its even better now

Are your results (from changing the stock widget) as impressive over a longer time?

Routinely 18 to 24 hours with wifi on and never sleep set.
Wifi saves battery. Its been proven over and over again.

Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
You may have tried this before, but based on a tip somewhere else on the forum, I switched off "Enable Fast Boot" in settings. This cured my battery drain problem after rebooting "properly". I guess the Fast Boot leaves some rogue things not cleaned up so rebooting doesn't help. I'm now back to 1.5+ days of battery, whereas I was getting maybe 6 hours at one point.
Also, when this happened one time before I turned off "Enable Tilt Scrolling" in the Developer menu of Chrome settings (if you use Chrome), again based on a forum tip. That also fixed it at the time.
The battery drain issue does come and go, I haven't found a consistent culprit... - 11-17-2012, 08:28 PM #72

Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
The wording varies by phone and rom.
My international model says "Keep Wifi on during sleep" , and it is set to Always.
You need to go to usage page, and tap Wifi, and find out what is using your wifi.

Also if you just took the phone off the charger, it is invalid to check battery, because it drops quickly over the first 5 percent when it's fully charged. Your screen uses far more battery than all your radios put together. Measure battery usage over an hour with screen off.
Use auto bright. It works wonders.

Re: Instant battery drain (to 0%) on AT&T One X
Oh, also be aware that just HAVING Chrome on your phone uses a lot of battery due to background processes that it runs. This is not unique to HTC, it also happens on all phones and tablet.
For that reason I don't run chrome at all.
Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it doesn't offer enough advantage over stock browser to entice me to pay the battery tax.
