Default Re: Why don't people like HTC anymore?

HTC tried to radically change their approach with the One series - simplify the phone lineup, make Sense much lighter, remove sd card and removable batteries. All of these were good decisions, coupled with the usual strengths of HTC design and solid materials. Unfortunately they failed at marketing this. And the sad fact is Android phones sell a lot based on specs. I've gone into many stores and see salesmen explaining specs of Android phones to prospective buyers. These same buyers have no clue what sd/ram/resolution means and simply go in to buy an iPhone or an Android. And then they are told this phone doesn't have feature X and get influenced.

HTC also had some really bad press with the multitasking issue on their phones. It was bad enough to hit the mainstream press. And they simply don't have the market presence or brand recognition Samsung does.

It's a bit sad to see HTC suffer so badly, they don't deserve this. The lack of success in international markets (where there are no carrier limitations like in the US) is also very puzzling.

In all honesty, I though we were going to see less variants when HTC launched the One Series line, yet we still have the Desire line not to mention the EVO 4G LTE and DROID Incredible 4G LTE.

The only television ad I recall for the One series is the guy jumping out of a plane taking photos. There probably should have been more.

Who's winning internationally? Especially in China?

I loved HTC, I bought the TBolt the DAY it was released but Verizon ruined it with the lack of updates and then their CLN replacements just pissed me off to the point where I demanded Verizon give me an upgrade to the Rezound free of charge, which after a little b****ing on my part they reluctantly agreed. However with the Rezound they gave me the run around with updates and when the update was finally pushed out it didin't stick well. My Rezound would switch between 1x, 3G and 4G and then finally not be able to get a signal. Then it would do random reboots! I finally complained enough to Verizon to get them to send out a Razr instead! I love the Razr much more than any of my other HTC phones because the radios actually work, its innovative (amazingly thin and light unlike the Rezound which is like a fat kid) and then theres updates! The Razr has already been said to be receiving Jelly Bean sometime soon, now iI realize that could be months but its better late than never, its definitely something the Rezound will never officially see!

Yes, set your wifi to the 2.5 setting or the 5ghz setting depending on your router, when you have automatic on it jumps around, at least it works for me, set mine to 5ghz, never had a problem

I personally prefer HTC. I went from a Pre to the OG Evo. Then an Epic 4g. Being new to android I had no idea about skins yet and differing UI. I lived Sense on the Evo and hated Touchwiz. If I wanted bright, cartoon like icons and UI I would have had an iphone. (don't get me wrong. I would never confuse the two)
I have since had 13 phones and the majority were HTC. They have quality hardware, beautiful screens and Sense fits me best

There have been less variants. Verizon ordered the Dinc 4G LTE that way, HTC really couldn't say no because they needed a new device on Verizon. Is the new Desire line even coming to the US? I still see this as less than last year, even if you take all international variants into account.

That was already too far in for HTC to pull the plug. Remember the Merge? How much did HTC eat developing that just to have Verizon pull it last minute?

Not if your like me and can't stand to be tied down to a non removable battery and non expandible storage I will never own a phone that won't be rooted it just isn't happening I like my custom roms and I will store a lot of them sometimes althoe rare I do have to do a battery pull but wait I can't do that with the one x or better yet 16 gigs?? Are you kidding me? I filled up a 16 gig card in a week

And yes I do support that argument they need to do like Samsung and apple release one version of the phone internationally same design same build differ ant internals to suite each carriers needs have one build for high medium and low its way cheaper on production design development why should they have 5 molds for 6 different carriers with different launches it just makes them over whealmed and quality goes to hell

I love my HTC One X.. sometimes i find myself holding it more than my GS3. i really don't care about the whole removable battery, most of my data is in the cloud (Music, Videos, Files) the only thing my storage is good for is doing Nandroids..

You people got to remember these forums only adds up about 0.02% of the HTC One X population.. yes some One X's have problems.. but mines is fine.. not a single issue.
The everyday user don't even know what Jellybean is.. let alone ICS.. so i highly doubt thats a problem. the every day user just cares if their phone lag and how good the sound is.

I think people dislike HTC because they released waaaaaaay toooo many phones in 2010/2011.. and your only as good as your last product. so HTC Screwed up when they tried to be like Samsung and release testers in the wild.

Other than that How many Samsung or other phones can you name that is two years old and still almost brand new with minor wear and tear? my HTC Inspire is still perfect.. HTC makes great quality phones, some people still using their EVOs..
Current Devices: Nexus 4, Nexus 10, Nexus 7, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, iPhone 5. Soon HTC One

Sense.. is still a little too heavy, the EVO LTE is just ugly and too tall, Sprint is a poor carrier with data issues so that would hurt EVO sale, poor marketing by htc...

No removable battery, the One S being on Tmobile.....

Sense is a problem, not only is it kinda bloated it has no where near the features of touchwiz in the gs3... Smartactions on motorola...

It's about software....HTC is falling behind on that.

People hate (or at least dislike it) HTC for the same reason most peopel love Apple: the name. Apple has been a big name for a while so people who like their products are automatically gona ssume that their next one is the op-of-the-line.

HTC is newer, and not as many people know how good their phones are. Once more people see the great quality of an HTC phone then HTC will begin to become as big a name as Apple and they'll get more postive backing from consumers.

They saw the quality from the Thunderbolt and switched to another OEM.

It's more than a name thing.

Google is emphasizing on cloud storage etc so if you are to lazy nd ignorant to accept the next thong then sir you have a problem there is no need for an sd card when I have features such as:

    Blah
    Blah
    Blah
    Ignorant, huh? Stay classy.

I won't buy a phone without a microSD slot. Just because you like utilizing those cloud services, doesn't mean everyone else does. Assuming so is as you say, "lazy & ignorant".

And in the long run, missing features like that drive people away from a brand.

I don't get all this stuff about the One X not having a removably battery and *only* having 32 gb storage (not forgetting the 25 gb dropbox thrown in for good measure). How much space do you really need on a phone for goodness sake? You would have to travel to the moon and back several times to listen to 32 gbs worth of music - not 20 mins on the bus to work! And as for photos, does anyone really want to keep their precious loved ones photos on a device that can easily get lost or nicked? Surely the sensible option is to upload them online somewhere anyway? The iphone has never had a removable battery, doesn't support flash or bluetooth but does anyone ever complain about that?? Basically it comes down to marketing - Samsung and Apple have the financial might to market their products, but HTC spent years making stuff for others before trying to make their own brand and bearing that in mind have done a good job to get into the top five manufacturers - ahead of even Motorola who have been making mobiles since they first came out! HTC products are well made and are built to last and I hope they can begin to make some noise in the market instead of being "quietly brilliant"!

So if Sense is kinda bloated what does that make Touchwiz? The biggest elephant on Earth? Touchwiz is definitely bigger than Sense, for a marginal gain in software "features". Smartactions on Motorola are the same as a few apps available in the market.

Yes, it's about software, and HTC went in the RIGHT direction IMO. Less bloat than before, more lean, smoother, useful features.

SD cards also go against the Android design guidelines. It might drive people away from a brand, but eventually every brand will ditch it. Where will you go then?

Some of the people complaining about this have huge microsd cards that are virtually empty. They just want bragging rights.
Others use it as their secret porn stash so they can hide it from their mom or GF. It takes a lot of battery to watch that much porn.

    I'm only half kidding here.

Yeah there are farmers driving tractor out in the middle of nowhere that need all their music on the device because they are on the fringe of cell service, or delivery drivers, or people that just live in fringe areas. Those folks may have a battery problem that you or I don't experience. I get 20 hours easily.

But unless you are on the go 24/7 on foot or a motorcycle (or homeless) where you can't charge, most of them are making it up based on past experiences, and none of them have actually tried the HOX. They read the battery size, and their mind closes like a steel trap, because they can't understand that the HOX is way more battery efficient than whatever clunker phone they based their opinion on.

I think HTC diluted their brand name with soooo many phones across soo many different carriers with only minor spec bumps to each. Consumers can get very irate. You purchase a HTC flagship phone today, two weeks later, another one pops out, better than what you have at the same price point. If you are a customer, would that seat very well with you? Case in point, people were spewing lava and fireballs after Motorola dropped the RAZR MAXX 2 months after the RAZR release.
HTC will come bounce back. All they need to do is continue making awesome products and have one(1) flagship a year, they will definitely gain traction again. They should also try expanding into Africa and other regions. They pulled out from most markets other than USA and Europe.
I have a HOX by the way

Evo and Droid are brands used by Sprint/Verizon and there was no way they'd not use that brand image. HTC isn't big enough to force the US carriers to not use their brands or make changes. And the Evo 4G LTE is better than the international One X in every way.

Now HTC is going to introduce a better One X in the hopes of gaining marketshare, and it's not going to work. What they need is some focused marketing to really highlight HTC strengths. Sense has a terrible reputation which it does not deserve. Show how useful Sense is in ads, show the build quality, and most importantly, tell people why your phones are better than Apple or Samsung. Apple isn't afraid to lie about the competition and go after them by name, why are Android phone makers so hesitant to attack Apple and the iPhone's many weaknesses.

I am so sick of people citing the battery as a reason to not get the One X. My battery life has been nothing but great, no complaints. That argument is total BS. Quit reading numbers on a page and USE the phone yourself for a while, you'd be surprised.
