Tethering - for free
Hey I don't know if this is the right place to post about this.
But I'm wondering if there is anyway to tether from my phone to my computer without having to play for ATT prices.
Is there a way to do it without rooting the phone ?

Re: Tethering - for free
Foxfi isn't available in the play store if you have the AT&T version. You have to download it from the Internet. Make sure you download the foxfi add on. That's supposed to make it undetected. The add on IS available in the play store.

Re: Tethering - for free
If you purchased the International version you could just do it, and AT&T can't even tell you are doing it.

Re: Tethering - for free
This works great. Glas someone dug this thread up. However, I think it shut off your phones WiFi connection. I had to manually switch it on. Either that or juice defender but I just started using that too.

Re: Tethering - for free
It is FoxFi, it shuts off the wifi connection. It did it on my gs3 when I used it the first time, too.
Note2 or Note10, that is the questionThanked by: - 10-20-2012, 11:45 AM #12
Re: Tethering - for free
By using foxfi, you're sharing your data connection. So it'll shut off wifi. That's normal. Turning on wifi will disable tethering.

Re: Tethering - for free
Its really sad that american carriers lock a feature that comes standard on the phone, then expects someone to pay a fortune just so they can tether without getting in trouble, just load up an aosp ROM if your rooted, the block is on stock carrier modded software, its not blocked on custom ROMs. Although your carrier could tell if you were tethering since the built in tethering function reports the data usage as that.

Re: Tethering - for free
I was under the impression Foxfi masked that data algorithm. Isn't that the whole point? It's the same discussion iPhone owners have with MyWi (jail break tether app). Apparently att only will notify u if u r seriously tethering your phone a lot. This is somthing I've looked into many times and on many different sites. It's bogus to have to pay twice for a signal. It should be free.

Re: Tethering - for free
FoxFi works on the att one x and downloading the add on from the playstore allows turn on proxy to hide it from AT&T.

Re: Tethering - for free
I figured it out. When you click on enable proxy you're provided with a proxy number and you simply enter it in the Web proxy code box in advanced wifi settings on your mac book. This program works like a charm, I won't be surprised when I get my unlimited data canceled though.

Re: Tethering - for free
If you don't tether the crap out your phone, att won't care. They look for the ones who use it a lot. Especially those who have unlimited data. I did this often on my previous phone (jail broken iPhone) and they never sent me anything. They usually text you an ad asking if you would like to add tethering.

Re: Tethering - for free
Go to your online acct or call 611 and request for your account to change calling plans the end of your bill cycle to The Mobile Share Data Plan (it includes tethering for free) Starting Prices = Unlimited talk and text $45 and 1gb Data $40= $85 before tax, before mobile purchases, before extra features and before any overage. Overage is $15 for 1gb . You can go up to higher tiers of data, For example theres a data plan for $70, $90, $120 etc..... the one i quoted you is 1gb.. Difference with this plan versus verzion is you are not required to purchase a hotspot to tether like you are with verizon which is an extra line charge. You can simply use the 1 phone you have to tether. Dont forget att has many wifi hotspots as well for free around town/
