Can't Search on Server with HTC Mail App

When I search either my exchange account or gmail account with the native HTC Mail app it doesn't return any results when I search on the server for a sender's email address or subject line I know is present in my inbox. When I search for emails that are synced on my phone there isn't an issue. I've currently got it set to sync the last 3 days of email for my inbox only. I am searching for emails that are in my inbox. Any ideas?

Same issue, HTC support suggest to search on gmail, their search function is limited to the mail you have at the app. I'll switch to Gmail, but can't uninstall the HTC mail app
