Dummie's Guide to Factory Recovery?

My friend is a bit of a dummy and managed to forget the lock code on her ATT One X (she decided to add a code the other day after a friend lost her phone). Lo and behold, the next time she went to use the phone, she couldn't remember the numbers and she's been stuck with basically no phone. It's been two days. Once I finished laughing after she told me about this, she asked me for help. Personally, I have no idea what to do, my guess would be that she would have to basically do a factory reset, except she can't get into the phone; so to me it sounds like she (i.e. I on her behalf) needs to flash a recovery or factory ROM. Right?
Except I have no idea how to do this. I've done a quick look through the forum here, but don't see anything relevant. Does anyone have a link to basically an Dummie's Guide to doing this?

Should be easy to reset. Try this-

Turn the phone off.
Press and hold the volume down button
turn on the phone
Once at the white bootloader screen (bar codes at the bottom of screen), release voldwn and use volume rocker to select FACTORY RESET and POWER to select it.
