Default Newbie here looking for some basic advice to get me back up to speed!

    Hey everyone,

Just picked up my Sprint One and am switching from the iPhone 4s. I had the original Captivate and loved the phone and Swype! I am a tech nut; mostly PC gaming. I like to get the most of my technology and am very new to this platform again and would like to get "up to speed.'

I purchased the Black HTC One and absolutely love the aesthetics of the phone. I choose this One for the aesthetics, it feels better in my hand (biggest selling point) and somewhat believe the S4 is the "iPhone" of Androids and prefer to go to something different; maybe having a little more "heart." So I am back again to Android

So far the rebooting of the home screens has been very frustrating. Back when I had my Captivate, I had a "task killer." Research I have done shows that Task Killers can be worse on the phone and performance as RAM is designed to carry load; not constantly kill and then reboot it. Is this accuraet? Is there a good way to disable apps that aren't being used?

    Any major pointers?
    Any must have Apps?
Cool stuff you do with the phone?

Again, I am a gamer nerd and love technology and want to get the most out of the phone. I have briefly used the IR for my TV, checked out the awesome camera and some options, uploaded all my pics and games. Now I just have to get involved with the Android community,, continue to learn, and look forward to hearing some expert advice for me!

I love the phone and the community, so....Hello!

Disabling apps can now be done under Settings>Application Manager> swipe over to All Apps. Scroll down to the app in question, tap it, and 2 buttons should appear toward the top; Force stop and Disable. Disable may be replaced with Uninstall updates (this must be done first to disable apps)

With Android 4.0+ task killers are pretty pointless. I don't know about hurting the system, but it will make apps take longer to load, thus eating more battery.

Must have apps....If you liked the movie 300, and into Spartans and such, there is SPartan Warrior. Fun game. It's an Economy/town building game that involves PVP and Player versus CPU. (Didn't know if PVCPU would have made sense)

Cool stuff to do with device...unknown, as I do not own it. Saw you asked for general Android advice and thought I would chime in.

I would suggest trying a new Launcher from Play. I like Nova. It brings a whole new breed of awesome to your phone by redefining custom.

Thanks for the info, I will check out Nolva. What exactly is "launcher." Is it just customizing the UI? What about running live wallpapers? I love the Matrix live wallpaper. Is it a major resource hog? I love the option as the iPhone was so plain. Thanks for the tips on how to manually disable apps without task killer.
