Switching from iPhone the only thing I need is a service like find my iphone so that I can locate my kid's. 3 of them have iphones and the other 2 of us have the HTC One. I am aware of Google Latitude but it seems to be a battery and data hog. Is there a service that anyone uses that will only ping the phones when the app is activated and locate at that time without constantly tracking, and of course free!

There's actually quite a few. I've used Cerebus in the past (it's free for awhile, but then costs a one time fee of 2.99 Euros.....but you can control up to 5 devices for that cost, so it's not that bad).

I actually have been trying out Android Lost, which is free as well: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...st&feature=more_from_developer&token=1pt02Bgq.

I have also used Seekdroid in the past, but it's $5: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...9yZy5ndG1lZGlhLnNlZWtkcm9pZCJd&token=kWY3kEAK

Cerberus is probably the best one I've used. You can install it, hide it from the app drawer (so they can't disable or uninstall it), and control it all via a website. Can even have the camera take a picture and send it to you, which I've actually used to find my phone since I couldn't hear the alarm and the map was saying it was in my house (I left it outside in the yard, but the picture let me track it down).
