Can i get cal alerts, for more than two or three days, on the Vivid pull down tray or on the home screen?

Got my Vivid two days ago, and it is awesome! Got everything pretty much set up, but had one question. The mail icon that comes on the phone, does it show the number of e-mails when i get them?
