    Default HTC VIVID, gorilla glass?

does the htc vivid have gorilla glass or is the glass at least hard/durable enough to prevent scratches?

No, it isn't Gorilla glass. It's plenty durable, but I strongly recommend a good screen protector and a good case, a Seidio Active or equivalent at minimum.

Sweet. That's less than the cost of my Vivid, alone.

Wet application screen protectors are surprisingly tough.

I have a Steinheil on my nexus, no case, and it has survived two terrifying parking lot drops.

Same Question directed to HTC support via a Canadian user of the 'Raider' (Canadian for 'Vivid' - obviously they should have swapped names with the US and avoided the legal issues with the porn media company. / IMHO)

"In Canada the vivid is called the Raider. I wanted to know the same thing so I went directly to HTC. This was the response:

"Thank you for contacting HTC Technical support about if your Raider device has Gorilla Glass for the screen of your device. In our commitment to quality, HTC pioneered the use of shatterproof glass in smartphones. At the time, Corning was the only manufacturer and we used their product, Gorilla Glass. Since then, many manufactures have developed and advanced shatter-proof glass technology, allowing HTC to use the highest quality cutting edge shatterproof glass in our smartphones while keeping costs low for our customers."

Not "Gorilla Glass" name brand but an equivalent product from another manufacturer

Did not know that. I figured they used gorilla glass. I deft need a screen protector. I scratched the screen either in my pocket or in my cup holder in my car.

Put a screen protector over the glass, and don't monkey around with it!

I apologize for that comment, but i couldn't resist.

Gorilla glass is far from scratch proof. It is resistant against them though

The Vivid doesn't have Gorilla Glass... If you've used any phone with Gorilla Glass it would have been obvious because you can even feel the difference on the screen. The Vivid screen also smudges more easily than any Gorilla Glass screen I've ever used.

Sony says the same thing about their Ion screen that isn't Gorilla glass, but it scratches very easily. I wouldn't buy any phone without a Gorilla Glass screen or something equipvalent. I dropped my Skyrocket on the face and it slid and there's not even a hint of a scratch on the screen. That would have destroyed the Vivid or Ion's screen, probably even cracked it... That SR took it like a champ. Have dropped my Vibrant on the face on Concrete and it was perfect afterwards as well.

Gorilla Glass or go home, IMO.

Any phone maker, really. It all comes down to what phones will have it and what manufacturers want to spend the extra cash for it.

I had an otterbox defender on it, and I never dropped my vivid. The reason why I like the Gorilla Glass is cause it's durable *just in case* and the screen feels completely different than screens that don't have gorilla glass. I can feel the difference just using the phone, and without the Corning it feels icky.

Gorilla Glass screens are also supremely resistent to smudges and fingerprints, usually, where screens like the Vivid or the Sony Ion fail miserably.

And a Vivid with a Defender on it is one of the bulkiest, heaviest mobile phone equipment I've ever had the pleasure to carry around on a daily basis.

Then why does the Corning website and HTC say it does? I called HTC about something else and asked and was told that it definitely has Gorilla Glass.
