Now it's illegal to unlock phone
As of today, it's illegal to unlock a phone without your carrier's permission. Apparently, you can buy unlocked phones from carrier's...I didn't know that...probably not as good of a deal.

Huh. I'm guessing pirating music is illegal. And pirating apps.
All I can say is that, its like what HTC is trying to do: you may be able to try. But you can never stop it.

I'm not saying it's good or bad...rooting a phone is not for me. But it appears the issue has been resellers that would get a bunch of phones, unlock them, and ship them all over the world. It's all part of the digital control act. Unfortunately, individual users get hit for something other yaahooos are doing...

Cell unlocking has nothing to do with the boot loader or rooting

Same thing as gun control, but that's best saved for a different forum.

Re: Now it's illegal to unlock phone
I figure it is all part of the new database that all the telco's are going to reference for valid IMEI numbers. if the phone has been unlocked before the contract is up it will mark it as bad IMEI in the database.
I am just figuring. what say anyone else that may be in the know about it.

Are you just an advertiser? It seems like that's all you say about anything.
