Took the plunge, installed the update, no drama. Wonder what holes it plugged.

I downloaded as well. No issues..so far so good.
Yeah, every time I click on the link.....wrong page...
It plugs the security breaches that HTC has had since a long time ago. I'll look for the article. But HTC failed to pass the privacy test, and a lot of the HTC apps, like Calculator, Camera, Clock, etc has always been able to do behind the scenes things.

Downloaded and installed as well.
Where is our JB update?!

HTC already confirmed that the Holiday is not going to receive JellyBean OTA. Grab a JellyBean ROM, that's the only possible way.Quote:

It sounds god awful, but if this has been known for a year and a half, just how big a threat is it actually? What if you're unlocked and rooted? What are the steps necessary to install?Quote:

Whether rooted or not, unlocked or not, all HTC has to do is open a port on your phone and they can virtually replicate your phone. There's a app out there called HTC Logger or something like that that shows you exactly what is taken. You don't need root for it.Quote:

I wasn't implying being unlocked/rooted offered protection. Rather, if you are, what steps do you have to take to apply the update?Quote:

Sure glad they didn't wait a long time to act on it :)
Relock your boatloader and run the RUU. Apply update. Complete.Quote:

I haven't received an update yet...maybe my carrier is waiting to push it to me. On the link above, the first step mentions to tap "HomePesonalize". What is that? I can't find it anywhere?
Maybe I already have the update?? The instructions say "The updated HomePersonalize application will have the version number 3.5.2219342158.452873". Where do I find this version number to see if I already have it.
Kurt
That actually fooled me for a bit too. Literally tap HomePersonalize. Right there where it says it :)

Hmmm...still confused. I got the text message indicating there was an update. When I click on the link in the text, it takes me to the HTC One website.
So, I don't know what HomePersonalize is. If I click on the link I provided above on my desktop computer, it wants to download to my computer...but it needs to be on the phone.
Kurt
Did you try going into Settings › ATT Software Update and check that way?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
Sure did. It goes off and thinks about it but comes back with no updates. That's why I'm wondering if I don't have it already. I just don't know where to go to find the version number to see if I'm good to go.
Kurt
I just checked mine (I hadn't yet because I don't want to go through the hassle of relocking and potentially rerooting if the update isn't really worth it). Anyway it said my software is up to date too, and I got the same text you did. So I'm forgetting about it. ;-)

On instruction point 1 it says tap homepersonalize. They mean it literally...tap it right there, that worked for me...

Rereading it, I do see that. But you have to admit it's a little confusing when they say to update go into Settings / check for updates, which is basically an automatic process, then below that they give totally different directions for manually updating.

HTC Vivid (ICS)
Oh it's completely confusing. I went to the software update and ran that, and then when that came up empty I went back again. And yes the link in the text message took me to the One page. All of that did make me a little nervous about going ahead with it.

I ended up using the browser on the phone and googling that exact URL given in my first post. Then I followed the instructions...Bob's Your Uncle. Not sure I saw any real change, but I guess I have it done now.
Kurt
Haha that's what I did. The least they could've done is provide a correct link in their text message :)
