Cellular connection when on wifi

I have a new P8 and it's my first huawei phone. I'm having a strange issue. When I'm connected to wifi, I get the "3G" logo and call quality is terrible. If I disconnect from wifi, I immediately get 4G and call quality is perfect. My other phones never even showed a cellular connection while on wifi and it was always 4G but for some reason I'm getting 3G while on wifi.

I don't own a P8, but I'll give my best answer.. When connected to Wifi, without wifi calling enabled, the only thing the wifi is handling is the data and not the voice. This is why, I suspect, you see the drop to 3G while on wifi. I'm not sure if the P8 has wifi calling, but it does help tremendously in my house to enable it, as I live in such a poor signal area.

I've got great signal in my house; full bars. I'm not aware of WiFi calling on the P8.
