Dinc2 Getting Neglected?
Is it just me or does it seem like the Incredible 2 doesnt have a large amount of people behind it? Everywhere I look theres tons of info/roots/roms/etc for everything except this phone. I picked it up last week and I love it but theres not much available yet. Even on this site if you look at the Forums theres about 200 total threads while all the other phones have 500-10000 threads

Because many people will not buy another 3g phone now that LTE is coming on line. Right or wrong, I think you are going to see the new 3g only phones like the dinc2 and motoX2 see very little acceptance hy the android community due to low sales.
I personally will not buy another 3g only devivce, and have heard this echoed by many others.
Not trying to be negative, this is just how I see it.

The phone hasn't even been out a month yet, give it time, and give the devs time to figure this out
And cordoni, I couldn't disagree with you more....LTE is in its infancy as shown by outages and horrible devices running on it now....3G devices are not going anywhere any time soon
Just have some patience, enjoy it as it is now, and as things develop, you will start see more things come - 05-22-2011, 08:19 PM #4
Thanks LowFire. For many, 3G provides perfectly good performance. Even though we're getting LTE here very shortly I chose to stick with 3g because it does everything I need (& didn't want such a large phone). Now don't get me wrong, faster is better just not necessary for me. I assume that the current problems with the LTE network will be worked out over time and widely available (and more phone choices) by the time I get my next device.
Waiting patiently for developers to root the Inc2. I'm in no big rush but hope to enjoy the benefits. - 05-22-2011, 08:30 PM #5
I actually bought the dinc 2 because it was 3g. I won't be getting 4g/lte any time soon and didn't want to be a beta tester for their new network. Plus by the time I actually get lte in my area these first phones will be old technology. I also value my battery life and lte phones are not exactly known for theirs.

It just doesnt seem like anyone's working on it as there's such little talk. It just worries me because I don't want a phone for 2 years that doesnt have the same "fun factor" as others just because it doesnt have 4g or Dual Core. WHich in my opinion are ridiculous because its a phone not a computer

I agree I won't be a beta tester for 4g. Its not in my area and I'm not going to buy a phone with such bad battery life because of the 4g.It does seem like nobody is working on rooting or talking about this phone. Which is a shame because it is a solid phone.

Could it be that even though the Inc2 is a really nice device, the power user wizards that are rooting devices aren't interested? It seems they would want to have dual core or 4G just to see where the limits of technology lie at this time. Achieving root on such devices allow pushing that envelope even further. There isn't much excitement in rooting what is considered a mid level device. I certainly hope that's not the case but it seems plausible to my droid noob self. Luckily my purchase choice did not rely on getting a root solution

People are working on it, just because there aren't constant updates on the issue doesn't mean it's neglected.
The Thunderbolt had an early dump with an unlocked radio making it easy to get root. From what I gather from xda is that the s, dinc2, and sensation are all in the same boat.
If you want root then jump in the irc chats and help, otherwise sit back and wait. - 05-23-2011, 07:40 AM #11

Not to worry
I am not really too worried about it. The only reason I would want to root mine is to get rid of the Verizon bloatware! I actually don't see any other reason to, I love this phone just as is. I would love to see a few more accessories for it and Gingerbread update. I don't need it to be the most popular phone in order to justify owning it, in fact it's kind of nice not to have the same phone as everyone.
You may be locked in a two year contract, but that doesn't mean you can't own another phone with in the 2 years. There are always phones available on ebay for great prices and if and when 4G is a bit more stable on Verizon in a year or so and the available phones are better as well I may pick up something worth owning. For now there just isn't such a thing available for 4g LTE so I have the greatest phone available on Verizon even if the masses don't agree. - 05-23-2011, 08:24 AM

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll just wait it out a little longer. This is a perfect device and 4G/Dual Core shouldnt be holding it back so much. I was pondering switching to the iPhone since I'm very familiar with iOS/Jailbreaking but really can't decide. Does anyone know where a solid DInc2 vs. iP4 is? I'm short on time so I can't search it up now but will definantly when I have free time if there's no replies here
Thanks all - 05-23-2011, 10:23 AM #14
The early reviews of the DX2 sound far more disappointing than those of the DINC2.I thinlk HTC's increased locking-down of their devices are far more of the issue than anything else. But all the excitment over the Sensation will be a big plus for DINC2 owners.

This phone has been out for 3 weeks and 3 days currently, they didn't build Rome in a day. If it takes a few months to work out the glitches then I'm okay with it taking a few months to be able to root it. Like most, I just want to get rid of the bloatware, I might even just temp root it and freeze them.
When they start making 4g phones, maybe even dual core phones with a 4" screen maybe I'll be interested, until then... this is the ticket. Having a phone in the boondocks with a 4g radio I can't turn off is useless. I just wish it was a SVDO phone but whatever, Verizon may have the "best" network but it certainly wasn't worth being different than the rest of the world - 05-23-2011, 05:17 PM

I live where the 5 o'clock news gets here at 2 am, there is not going to be 4g here till like 2030 (exaggeration). Our nearest mall is an hour and a half away. 3g isn't going away anytime soon and neither are the devices. My area has a population of 8000 people and like 5 of us have Verizon considering Verizon is not even offered here and I run extended network 24/7.
Current: Verizon Galaxy Nexus with CM10
Past: HTC Rezound, HTC Incredible 2, HTC Incredible
Blackberry Bold, Blackberry Tour, Blackberry Curve
Samsung Delve (what a joke but started it all)

no one should be investing in 4g until 2 things happen... battery life gets better... and voice and data both trvel over LTE rathr then the hybrid CDMA/LTE. Once those 2 problems are fixed, then I'll switch. Till then, theres nothing wrong with 3g if you ask me

Battery life seems to be getting better with each LTE device so hopefully by next year LTE devices will have processors & batteries which will equal their EVDO counterparts. As for VoLTE, that's going to be much longer down the road. If VoLTE is going to be a requirement you might as well upgrade to a 3G device to hold you over for the next 2 years. I also agree that having (or not having) LTE would not be the most important factor when it comes to upgrading.
