    Default Uninstalling clockwork on 2.3.4

From what I can tell scouring various forums for a couple of days, I may have a slightly unique issue and possibly warrant a new thread. A quick history of my situation.

I have never rooted, but getting the 2.3.4 update a few months ago and the constant low memory error drove me to try. I used the unrevoked 3.2 method on a Mac, which failed to gain root. But somehow I managed to install Clockwork Recovery. I am still unable to gain root... as I have gathered from the internets that gaining root on 2.3.4 isn't quite possible yet. Now that the 4.08 update is out, I would like to install it to see if it fixed my earlier issues (notably, not being able to use voice search). I'm not 100% sure, but it seems clockwork might be preventing me from getting the OTA. When it starts to install, it says it is rebooting now and just hangs.
I am still unable to gain root. I feel like I really screwed myself and will be stuck with this broken version of GB forever. If anybody has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated. My level of understanding of rooting is getting stronger as days go on, but I'm still a little fuzzy about it.

    thank you,

You definitely can root! I did it today to two previously un-rooted S-ON dincs, both had the 4.08 release.

If you just want to get the stock recovery so you can flash the update - there is a stock recovery here:
    Recoveries | PvilleComp's

Rename the file to PB31IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SD Card (Your SD card must be FAT32 format). Then boot into HBOOT (turn off, power on by holding power and Vol Down) Let HBOOT find the file and press the power button to initiate the install when prompted.

    Hope this helps.
Some say that his dormant chips were left that way for YOUR SAFETY... Others say that once "turned on," he can not be turned off... All we know is... He's called The Stig.

Thanks for the reply and the link. I did what you said and the phone recognizes the PB31img.zip, but then it doesn't do anything. A bar appears to the right, then it disappears and goes into hboot menu. I have CWM 5.0.2 installed, does that mean anything?
