I couldn't figure out how to remove that stupid Voicemail icon from the app drawer after nuking visual voice mail, so I went ahead and modded a stock messaging apk that I compiled a while back for the Moto Droid. It looks like stock once you open it, but has the traditional HTC messaging icon on display.

Best of all, NO MORE voice mail icon in the app drawer.

Plus its a lot faster than the htc modded one.

Backup before installing. I have tested MMS coming in, and text in and out.

Note: This will remove your htc messaging app. Your old messages should be retained but is not guaranteed.

I have not yet tested:

MMS going out
MMS video coming in

They should work fine though.

Install this via ROM manager or clockwork.

Works on all version of 2.1. Most likely not Froyo.

Um, install handcent and set it to the android theme and there ya have it. This is black themed though.
