Confused about all the options.

What I want is 2.2 with free wireless tethering.

So do I root or use unrevoked? What are the advantages/Disadvantages of each?

If I install Titanium backup and do a backup before I begin and a restore after I am done will that restore all my programs I installed and settings?

I am looking at Sky Raider 2.5.2 sense but I have to upgrade my radio to at least v2.05.00.06.11. I see where V 2.15 people are having problems.
Is 2.5 stable?
where can you get it?
At what point do you install it?

no problems here with the 2.15 radio on 2.5.2. Interested in the problems people are having.

Unrevoked forever at this time cannot be reversed. However it GREATLY simplifies the radio flashing process.

I haven't upgraded the radio yet. I am hesitant to do the unrevoked forever. Also, I'm not experiencing any problems with the radio that I am using right now. As of right now I am sticking with what I have.

Me personally... i rooted last weekend and didn't feel like i needed to use Forever. Im using Skyraider 2.5.2 with a white theme.

Also, I want wifi tether, therefore, regardless of official release, I still won't get that, unless I root. So, basically, I am better off rooting, then installing Skyraider 2.5.2 to get Froyo, then block any update to an official, as, just to be clear, it you tried to install the official OTA over the rooted 2.5.2, it will mess up the phone, correct?

Yes you do. 2.05.00.06.11 is what im running and have no problems.

WIFI tether was also my sole motivation for rooting. I thought about waiting until the rumored days since they were so close (today) but regardless, i wouldn't have wifi tether (for free). Im not going to abuse it, i just wanted to have something that I could use on my netbook or other devices in case I was not near a free hotspot.

I am running Skyraider 2.5 as well, but I didn't update the radio. Phone is operating just fine. I'll check the changelog tonight, maybe a radio update was included in the Skyraider.

Hmmm... im not too savy on this kind of stuff, i guess n00b is the correct term for me. But i just followed what the developer was saying when he posted his ROM on XDA.

Well, with the release of the leak yesterday, I could not resist. Here is SkyRaider 2.0 based off the leak. This ROM is completely deodexed for your theming pleasure. As far as I know, everything in this ROM functions. To get the full benefit, you must be already running the leaked OTA radio v2.05.00.06.11. I do not know how this will react with a pre-ota radio. I am leaving 1.9b up for those who still want it. There will be no more updates to it.

You don't need to use unrevoked forever... you can flash new radios. Its not the latest...but its a 2.0 radio and works just as good. I followed this ([ROM]*07/27 Leaked OTA* Stock 2.2 with Sense [SOME BUGS!!] - xda-developers

How to flash the 2.x radio.

Rooted

1. Download PB31IMG.zip and place it in the root of you SDCARD. Make sure the FS is FAT32, otherwise PB13IMG.zip will not flash.
1a. Link has been updated so you no longer have to apply the VZW exchange OTA.
2. Now go to the bootloader.
2a. Run 'adb reboot oem-42' if powered up or hold Power + Volume Down if your phone is off.
3. It should automatically start loading PB31IMG.zip. Then accept it when it asks you to load it or not (pretty sure Vol Up).
4. You are now completely stock. You should remove PB31IMG from your SDCARD now.
5. Download dinc_ota.zip, rename it to update.zip and place it in the root of your SDCARD.
6. Now boot into recovery and apply the zip.
6a. adb reboot recovery if powered up or Power + Volume Down then select Recovery.
6b. Now hit Power + Volume Up to bring up the Recovery menu.
6c. Now select apply update.zip
7. Go to Settings > About phone > Software information > Baseband version and verify that it's 2.05.00.06.11.
8. Now download and run Unrevoked 3 to reroot and install ClockworkMod recovery.
9. Now you can go ahead and do a Full Wipe then install the Stock Froyo rom.
