What are ways to tell if your phone is bricked?

I was just wondering what ways there are to brick your phone and how to tell if it is bricked. I would also like to know what you can do.

About the only way to truly brick a Android is to bork a radio update.

What can you do? Take it back to Verizon.

The easiest way to tell if you are bricked or not is to pull the battery. When you put the battery back in, hold the volume down key while pressing the power button. If your phone doesn't boot in recovery, you're bricked. If it does boot in recovery, guys on this forum way smarter than me might be able to save you.
