If your going from Skyraider to a newer version of Skyraider you should be safe without wiping. Make sure you make a back up first just to be safe.

I have a habit of wiping EVERY time, but I'm a little ocd sometimes... Back it up first and if you have problems, recover and start over.

I was wondering about wiping data/cache because when i was trying to install a redemption add on I wiped data/cache, and it bricked my phone.

Add ons are a little different than full roms. Add ons need the rom you have loaded. An update in version number is a full rom and can stand on it's own... that's the difference as easy as I can describe it.

Makes sense, you cant have internet explorer without the windows. All I can say is "thank god for back ups", if you screw up, you can always go back.

I dont know if it was "bricked" by technical terms, but it was froze in a white screen flashing HTC. I had to pull the battery, and do restore from recovery. If thats not a brick then what do you call it?

Some would call that a "boot loop". Bricked all you get is a triangle with an exclamation point in it...

Bricked is when you can't boot into recovery. I believe the only time you can brick an Android is when you bork a radio flash.
