I believe if you are rtooted but not running any third party ROMs, you still be notified that an update is ready, but you shouldn't accept/install it. being rooted means you have clockworkmod recovery installed on your phone and accepting the update could turn out to be unfavorable.
I suggest reading up on some of the current ROMs that have the updated info in them and flashing some to see what you like. - 11-11-2010, 07:34 PM #3
I was rooted when the froyo update came and had to reroot after the update. With a minor update/patch I doubt the same issue would be the case, purely speculation at this point. I will post if I get the update before anyone else replies.

I'm rooted, I have tried some customs ROMS, but maybe I'm crazy, I still like the stock rom. I guess I don't like change. I'm used to it, I like it, and it works for me. I would like this update, but what "unpleasant" things will happen? Will it just unroot? If so can I use Unrevoked again? Or do I have to wait for them to update to root the update?

From my recollection of other posts on the subject, there is a possibility that accepting the update "could" cause you to lose root forever, something like that.
