Mangler: A VOIP client to use while playing Ingress
I just caught this on our G+ page. I can't confirm anything with it, as I'm waiting for a replacement SGS3 to come in the mail....here's to hoping for Saturday delivery. Just thought I'd throw this out there, maybe somebody else would be interested. I know typing for communicating is a PITA sometimes, not to mention time wasting. Could make this a little more fun, although I'm not sure what 35 people talking all at once will sound like. I just copied the post, and changed the login info. Not sure if the guy has to pay for the server or not, I sent him a message asking, and will keep you updated

So, I have just remembered I have a 35 person Vent server.
for those unfamiliar its a VoiP system for gaming, allows people to talk via voice or text chat.
Might be handy to use to coordinate attacks / defence
Unlike ingress/intel chat it wont skip stuff when zooming around and you can leave it running in the background while doing other things and still hear when someone comes into chat.
Feel free to use it.

Seldge: where are you at?! That's an awesome idea!

Calgary. I just saw the post this morning on our Google+ page, and haven't actually tried it out yet. Just thought it was interesting, and somebody else might like the idea. Most of the time I have my BT headset on anyway, it seems like a logical next step.

We haven't actually used it yet, but when I get it figured out, I'll get back to you. Not sure how well it works, but looks like you can have up to 35 on the server and you can subdivide the chatter into sections.

More info from the guy that sent me the above info:

It's $80 a year from that hosting company but there are others that are cheaper just not as reliable, there is an open source VoIP server called mumble as well that's quite good but I wouldn't want to run it 24/7 at Canadian rip off isp rates
I was thinking it would be useful in conjunction with the G+ event tool or for finding general pick up kind of groups in your neighbourhood
Or relaying Intel information from someone who's at home to people who are out
oh as an added bonus you can see who is in a room with you, no worries about spies.
right now text chat is set to be visible to everyone logged onto the server, voice is set to individual rooms but allows phantom users so you can copy yourself to listen to other rooms in addition to the one your speaking in
