    Default So long Blackberry..

    Hi guys,

I've been a sad, lonely user of a (Verizon) Blackberry Tour for too many years now. I finally accept that Blackberry is doomed, and am ready to join Team Android.

I'm going to hit Costco today to grill the kiosk guy.. and hopefully walk away with a new device. My concerns..

    - can I swindle a way to keep my current Unlimited data plan?
    - can I return it in 14 days if I'm not happy? (though really - 14 days is not very long, Verizon.. )
    - and if the above, can I get another device, and return that in 14 days.. etc..

My biggest concern with leaving my BB behind is the size/battery life change. Granted my BB cannot DO very much, it does have rockstar battery stamina.. and it fits in my pocket. I'm never going to use a holster, nor am I ever going to carry around extra batteries.

    Welcome to Android Central.

If you are already on a unlimited data plan you should be grandfathered into a new "unlimited" contract with your new device. I would stand your ground on this.

Returns.. Yes the 14 day window is pretty standard across the board now for all US carriers.

Yes if you feel that device isn't for you in your 14 day window you can opt for a different device. I'm not positive on Verizon or any carrier allowing you to test drive 1 device for 14 days, then return rinse & repeat and go another 14 days, etc...

Battery life, its gonna be a change from what you had with the BB but with proper usage and taking control of your device as far as setting for syncing times, screen brightness and other things you should get a decent 8-10 or more hours out of an Android phone...

    Enjoy the forums.

    Thanks Paul! Good info.

I tried an iPhone before the Tour, and needed the full 30 days to get a proper feel for it (and.. it was not good). This 14 day stuff is a bummer.

Yes I agree on the 14 day deal... I know its a pain in the ****, best thing to do is go to a local store that isn't too busy and spend some time just playing around in the store for a while with a working device get a general feel flipping through the menus and stuff.. Sounds silly but it will help narrow the choices down a bit once you get a general feel for the different models in your hand and how they look and feel.

The Getting Started link at the top of the page has lots of helpful information for new users. I came over from BlackBerry as well and it is an adjustment but Android devices are much more powerful, and I am glad that I made the switch. I initially resisted carrying an extra battery and went to great lengths to get through the day. It was such a pain and I wasn't using my phone the way I wanted to use it. Now I just carry a spare battery (something I never did with my BBs) and just use my phone without having to constantly worry about my battery level.

So what device did you get?

Don't believe the B.S hype BB is not dead and you will miss some features from it gauranteed . On another note welcome to Android.

So you had a Tour? I'm surprised you didn't try a 9930. I have the 9930 and a Nexus - I use the 9930 as a daily driver because of the battery. And battery life on a Nexus sucks *** - I'm not going to cripple my device (and shouldn't have to) in order to save battery life. Why should I have to turn down the brightness of that awesome screen? haha

And I do prefer the physical keyboard of the 9930. What device are you looking at?

    Good luck in your choice!

And.. I'm back. I got the $60 Bionic 32Gb (last one in the store, plus a 16G card installed on top). We'll see how this goes! I have 14 days to adapt. Could not justify the $300 on the Nexus.

Leo - I don't believe any BB hype - I've been a Crackberryhead for many many years, and it is clear now that they can't get out of their own way. I was tempted by the 9930.. but.. I wanted something that will be supported for the length of my contract. I don't believe BB10 will appear anytime soon - and when it does, it won't be on the 9930. We'll see - I could find this thing unbearable. I did not like the iPhone (granted it was the 3G, not a 4), so who knows.

It wasn't BB hype it was non BB owner hype. The 9930 was the best BB I ever used and still sometimes regret returning it,the customization of BB's is ridiculous and I miss them. I own a Rezound wich I like but miss that beautiful keyboard and phone first style about BB. I'm waiting patiently for the BB10 os to appear on a Bold 9930 style phone and I'm out.
