New member & urgent question - last day to swap VZ Gnex for Maxx
Hey everyone -
Been lurking heavily since I got my Verizon Galaxy Nexus 14 days ago. I thought I'd talked the salesman into dropping $100 off the $299 price by telling him I was probably going to buy the $149 Nexus through Amazon. Two days later, VZ cut the price to $199, so my deal wasn't such a deal after all, and the salesman knew it - he gave me some run-around about needing to bring new inventory in and tried to get me to let them mail me a $199 phone that would arrive three days later. Instead, I said I had to walk with the phone, and a manager made it happen by scanning in a newly-priced unit.
While that sorta irked me (it shouldn't have - I know salespeople can't tell customers not to buy devices because the price is going to drop), what irks me is the device itself. Terrible lag time when I switch signals, intermittent 3G (much less 4G) signal at my house, when other VZ devices get a strong signal, and even the WiFi signal from my E4200 Dual-band router drops off more quickly (on both the 5 and 2.5 WiFi bands) than other devices which are the same distance and location. Lastly, after some practice, maybe I could get my battery to last longer, but right now it's awful (heavy user here). I have not rooted and am running stock 4.02 that came with my device.
I have 4 hours before my restock 14-day period ends.
I've done lots of reading on the Droid Maxx, which is allegedly scheduled for a 5/21 ICS update (based on my HTC Incredible Froyo>Gingerbread experience, I take all VZ schedules with a grain of salt). So - if you've read this far, should I pay the $35 restock fee and get a Maxx, even with rumors that a Gnex ICS update is imminent?
Thanks for any advice.
PS - I freaking love the Nexus - so much fun to play around with - it's just the signal and battery issues that are pushing me towards a swap. - 05-01-2012, 02:50 PM #2

If it is the radios that are the MOST important thing to you, ditch the gnex. I went from the fascinate to the Charge, both had radio issues that were going to be fixed with the next update. Updates came and went without resolution and so did I.
In addition to the Maxx, you might want to look at the ReZound. Good phone, ICS coming (5/9 if you believe the schedules), easy to root, tons of devs, and most importantly to me, an actual UPGRADE over the superAMOLED screen on the gnex (or Charge, but they are the same screen)
I will get ripped for that last comment but that is how I see it....the Maxx screen seemed to be a downgrade for me - 05-01-2012, 04:22 PM #3

Do what makes you happy. If your gonna return it, at least wait until the SGS3 is unveiled and see who the partners will be on it.
If Verizon gets it, it would be worth waiting on.
