Default Nexus S i9020T Will not root

    Hello everybody!

This is my dilemma. I have previously rooted my phone successfully. However, I decided to unroot it following the instructions of this webpage.

After doing that, the image I got from there was an old 2.6.5 When I realized that I decided to root my phone again and Installed a different ROM. The problem I have now it will not allow me to flash a recovery image.

I have fastboot, AdbWinUsbApi.dll, AdbWinApi.dll, ADB apllication, recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro, in the same folder. In the command prompt I go the right directory. Then I type the command fastboot oem unlock The phone responds, then I select unlock from the phone just fine. Then when I try to flash the recovery image by typing the command
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro All I get is error: cannot load recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro

I tried installing Superuser from the market and then installing ROM Manager from the market, that perhaps I could install a new recovery image that way but the super user from the market wont grant me super user access. Thefore ROM manager will not work.

    Any Ideas? Please HELP!

    THANKS,
    Gabe

    Welcome to Android Central.

Here is a direct link to Google's pages for the factory images available to download.

For the i9020T model there are two available.

    Gingerbread v2.3.6 and ICS v4.0.4

    Good luck !

Hello and welcome aboard. Here's a link that I believe you'll be interesting in reading. Getting Started with Android - Tips and Tricks. Also, you will want to check in to your device's area of support - where other users of the same device will give you help on getting the best out of your device.

    Hello again!

I went to the link provided by Paul627g. " Factory Images for Nexus Devices - Google Support for Nexus Phones and Flagship Devices - Google Code" From there I downloaded the factory 4.0.4 factory image for my Nexus S. However, in order install everything I had to setup a Linux machine with JDK 6, which I downloaded from here and the SDK which was downloaded from here

Here is another link on how to root with linux [LINUX GUIDE for NOOBS] Rooting, Unlocking, Locking and Flashing

In the end just follow the instructions to the letter and you will succeed. Then again, if all you want is to return your phone to factory settings all you have to do is to flash the factory image previously downloaded from the google site into your phone.

You do that by navigating in the Terminal to the directory you have extracted the factory images with super users powers. And then just type the command " fastboot flash boot boot.img

    then
    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

    then
    fastboot flash system system.img

    then
    fastboot flash userdata userdata.img

once that's done you have flashed all the factory software into your Nexus S. All is left for you to lock it back up by using this command:

    fastboot oem lock

Then your are done. Restart your phone and everything should be the way it was as when first got it from the store.

    Hello!

I thought what I did before worked. Unfortunately, not really. After I did what i did, the phone acts weird. It will do a factory reset every time I boot into the factory recovery image I put in there from the google webpage. And my signal bar always marks E, and the thing only work with my T-mobile sim card.

Not just that, now I cannot even get my linux machine to flash anything in there. So I went back to try it with my Windows machine and I am still stock with NOTORIUS message
    ERROR: cannot load recovery...

I have the recovery image and everything in the sdk platform-tools folder, and I already tried spelling the whole path to the recovery image, and I even change the recovery image name to one word there is no chance I am miss spelling something.

    Please HELP!
    Thanks everybody!!!!
