Hello all. My first post , so please bare with me.
I currently have an old iphone 3gs that has NO SERVICE. Just use it like an ipod touch on WIFI.
Can I buy a PREPAID PHONE ( Virgin Mobile ) and NOT have service and just use it like the Iphone for surfing the net , playing apps and such on WIFI ?? Or are prepaid ones different in that you NEED Service even to use wifi ?

Welcome! A prepaid phone without mobile service should still be able to work on wifi. I don't have direct experience with prepaid phones, but I did have an unlocked Sony phone that someone from the company gave to me as a gift, which I never activated as a phone, but which worked just fine on wifi.

I wonder if Best Buy will open one and let me see before buying? I know they have wifi there.
It would be nice to have a prepaid for emergency , but dont want it if I cant use it without buying a prepaid card.

I think Best Buy has a decent return policy. Ask them if you can return it for a full refund within 30 days. If so, then just buy it and give it a try. If it doesn't work, return it.
