Hi
My name is Allie...aka AlLeeKat I joined because I am currently having storage issues with my stock email app. Won't let me clear data and even though I've deleted all mail and trash and all my folders are empty, it's still sucking the storage out of my phone. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it!!.

BTW: It's an HTC Evo 4G.Last edited by AlLeeKat1869; 09-14-2012 at 02:12 PM.

Re: Hi
I just popped in to say "Hi" and "Welcome". Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you on the email app issue. How much storage is it taking up?

Re: Hi
Have you tried going into the app details screen and clearing data. This will clear all the data in the app, including your account info. You have to set everything back up. But it might also fix your problem

Re: Hi
Still have not found a way to clear data on my stock mail with my htc evo 4g. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have deleted everything from every folder I could find and deleted my account from using the stock mail. I don't know much about file managers, finding hidden folder and what I can and can't delete from them and I certainly don't want to screw up my phone.

Re: Hi
Welcome to AC!!
Is it taking up 50 megs of storage space, or, is it taking up 50 megs of RAM? If it's RAM, it's not a problem and would account for why you can't clean it up. That's what I'm leaning towards. Where does it say 50 megs? - 09-27-2012, 09:42 AM #8

Re: Hi
Hmm. That's strange. If you are concerned about space, you could always try and move some stuff over to your SD card. I don't know why that is taking up that space when you have cleared Data, but, that is a work around if that's your concern.

Re: Hi
I have moved everything I can to my sd card. The problem with this is that it will not let me clear the data from the mail or move it to my sd card. This is why I'm thinking there is a hidden folder internally in the phone (not on sd card...already deleted everything from mail folder on sd card...didn't change a thing.)

Re: Hi
Yes, I am aware of that. I was offering you a suggestion because I didn't have any idea how to fix that issue for you. It says it's taking up data, you can't clear data, I'm stumped. If you think there is a hidden folder, then, browse it on your PC, see what you can find. You can also look at the properties of folders, check the size, and, find out if any of the folders has 57.19 MB inside of it.
I know you said you removed the account, but, do you have any other accounts on the phone that could be taking up space in your email? Or, maybe it's an account you used to have, but, have since removed, so the app can't clear it's data.
Are you having space issues, or, do you just want this fixed? I mean, I know you only have 54 MB free, but, do you actually need more space? - 10-01-2012, 01:56 PM

Re: Hi
I'm having space issues. I am constantly having to go in and clear data and cache. I can't even keep bookmarks on my phone for the internet because I am constantly clearing the data and cache from that as well. Facebook also sucks up a lot of storage and I constantly have to clear the cache and data on that.
I have searched through my phone on my pc and have looked at properties of folders (not all folders...didn't have time). I'm afraid to delete anything I find because I don't know much about internal stuff on phones and don't want to mess up my phone. This is why I'm thinking about doing a factory reset.
I have never used any other accounts with my mail.
The only reason why I had 54MB free is because I had just cleared a bunch of data from a bunch of sites. - 10-01-2012, 02:09 PM #14
Re: Hi
Well, if you don't have anything against doing a factory reset, that'll do the trick. Lol. At this point, I can't really think of anything else. You can try posting in General Help and How To to see if you can get another solution from the rest of the community. This forum is just for introductions.

Re: Hi
Well, of the 15 post in here, 12 are me or you. Lol. I dunno then. If you feel up to it you can reset and hope you don't have the issue again.

Re: Hi
Just did a factory reset and immediately disabled the stock mail program which came up using only 1.07MB. I went from using 372MB with 54MB avail to having 52MB used and 374MB avail. I have to reinstall some of my apps and I think I lost all my contacts (thought they were saved on my sd card). I know this will take up more space internally, but I'm not worried about it at this point in time.

Re: Hi
Well. Good. At least your problem is solved for now. Well, you were concerned about space before lol. With that little internal, you should consider it. Why don't you wanna associate them with your Google account?

Re: Hi
They are associated with my google account. I got all but I think one of my contacts (just added last week...lol). Once my gmail account loaded up, they all came back. They don't give you a whole lot of internal space on these phones and unfortunately, a lot of the stuff you can't move to an sd card. I have stuff "internally" on my phone I will never use and can't delete it (like Block Buster, NASCAR and Sprint Football, [I like both too, but won't use my phone for them] for example), but I disable what I won't use.

Re: Hi
Yea, all your contacts will be backed up to Google unless you specify otherwise.
Well, they didn't give that phone a lot of internal memory, but, I think more of them do than don't. I got my phone last June and it has 8 GB of internal. Not all apps can be moved to SD, but, many can. And, you should be storing things like music, video and pictures to your SD, so, you shouldn't really have an issue. There aren't many apps (at least that I have downloaded) that are all that big so the 350 or so MB you have should suffice. But, that could be all used up by downloading one very large app, so, make sure you know what you have installed. Make sure to maintain your phone and regularly uninstall apps you don't need, clear app cache, clear browser cache, etc. and you shouldn't have any issues.
Well, if you want to get rid of bloatware, you have to root.
