Newbie with Upgrade Dilemma

Hi all

My current device is a HTC Thunderbolt with a upgrade date due in or around the first week of January 2013. Like many I am torn on what device to get and looking for some outside input. I am currently thinking about waiting until after CES and the 1st quarter passes to see what new comes out or is announced. My Thunderbolt is trying its best to hold down the fort but being stuck on 2.3 is killing me and the device softly. If need be I thought about opting to buy a Samsung Nexus off ebay or craigslist to hold me over (especially since no nexus 4 on vzw) until I opt in for another 2 years. Does anyone have insight or advice that could help me settle on a good decision?

The Thunderbolt is supposed to be getting ICS soon, but there's still no definite date.
