Default New to Android OS, ex-iOS user.

    greetings.
i have just picked myself up a HTC One X+ and i just have a few questions regarding the task manager. I notice that my phone will open programs without my permission such as Talk, Picassa uploader, YouTube. Coming from iOS it was easy to know which apps were running by simply double clicking home and closing them, this time around im sorta confused why these apps are running. AutoSync with my Google account? A quick reply would be nice to simply clarify things. Much appreciated.

Don't be too concerned about which apps are opened and which aren't. Android works differently from other OS's in that it wants to keep its RAM active with open apps in order to access them more quickly when you need them. There is typically no need to force close an app unless it's misbehaving (e.g., slowing the system down by using up too much CPU or battery). This link may help:

Android also has a feature called the Application Manager. You can go there by pushing Settings>scroll down to Application Manager, and there you can disable apps. If you slide over to All, you can go through all apps loaded onto the phone and disable ones you most likely won't use. I would stick with easily identifiable ones...say for instance, Yahoo Finance. Click on it, and then click disable. It's still on your phone, yes, but it will no longer be opening up. This way, if for whatever reason, your phone doesn't like that change, you can re-enable it. But most of the bloatware garbage is that. Craptacular apps that are just show offs for the phone. Oh, how I wish manufacturers would just let us be able to completely delete them without rooting.

Welcome to Android. Hope you enjoy your new device.
