Default Looking to try out Android

    Hi all,

I'm a current Windows Phone 8 user, and I'd like to give Android a try on a second phone. Here's what I'm looking for:

1: Cheap - around $100 for an older or used phone
    2: AT&T
3: Can be rooted to run stock ICS.

Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I would suggest seeing if you can get a used, or maybe even new, Galaxy S2. They are pretty easy to root (I have Epic 4G Touch/Sprint variant), and a fair amount of ROMs are out there. You said stock ICS, so you don't really have to be rooted to get that. There should be an ICS build out there somewhere for the AT&T version (It's called the Skyrocket, I think...)

When rooting/flashing ROMs with this device, double check to make sure it is for your device. You can't use any other carrier's variants for this phone. Same goes for International versions too, on any phone. This may brick the device. I would also suggest keeping an older build on your computer to save you form any mishaps. And download ODIN (PC program to help flashing ROMs or recoveries). There are lots of YouTube videos on how to do this.

Good Luck on your search for a second device.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 and S2 Skyrocket are two different phones, and you were close though, but the Skyrocket was the one that got the ICS update.

Sorry if it seems like I'm harping on your everywhere, I just want to help others as well, it's nothing personal.

Thanks for info. I've also figured out that I really want the phone to have an indication LED. I guess the Nexus S doesn't have one, which is too bad because I was ready to buy one of those. :-(

I'll be on the lookout for a SGH-I777 or SGH-I727.

Whoo! Welcome to HTC, man. It's simple to mod these things but for others, the S-ON/S-OFF crap is a turn-off.

    Awesome!

Let us know how things are going, and definitely hit up the HTC One X forum at some point.
Represent yourself well; you never know what might happen. And try out the new Android Central app!

    Softbricking be damned.
