The disconnects are getting really bad

I have a unrooted GPE HTC M8 and the watch disconnects over 60% of the time. Will increasing visibility help?

The watch nevers gives me a text notification when I'm at home. Only on the phone. I've watched it. The notification will flash for a hot second. But it buzzes.

Is your text messaging app open on the phone at the time? I've noticed if the phone screen is on it seems to bypass the watch notification.

I notice having the phone without any obstruction works best.
I was at work this morning and I get notifications as I was coming down from a flight of stairs.
I'm at home, phone is in my room and I'm sitting in the living room the watch disconnects. The house is all wood walls.
The distance from my room to the living room is far less than when I was at work this morning.

Very annoying.
