Default G2: Good, Bad and Ugly

So it's now officially announced what do you feel are the Goog, Bad and Ugly aspects of the phone.

Good: Processor, internal storage 16/32GB options (I would get no less than 32GB), nearly zero bezel, super bright display and battery drain reduced by over 26% with new display tech
Bad: No microSDXC slot, (WTF 16/32GB is NOT enough) and no removable battery. (Although they did give us 3000mAh battery inside)
Ugly: It really is a sexy phone, the buttons are not something everyone is going to like so they could fall under ugly but I think they will do just fine.

Question is will this be the Nexus 5 and if so why not just wait for that to arrive or will it not arrive with LTE again?

I don't see any "bads" or "uglies," due to me not caring for an SD card slot (that's my opinion).

I don't think Google will get away with not putting LTE in this year's Nexus. However, I will say, I don't expect the price to be as low as the Nexus 4 was.

SDCARD slot.. Doesn't bother me... It just doesn't work, now even with the example of the S4 bringing in the use of SDCARD apps to sdcard with the update we are still seeing problems with crashes and other stuff that Android has continuously warned us about.

I know I'll take heat for this but I applaud LG for keeping away from the sdcard. 16/32 is confirmed, I'm sure if the device sells as much as they hope the 64 model is probably already on standby to release at a later date or could even be an exclusive to one or more of the US carriers.

Non removable battery. Again.. This is simple an adjustment of our lifestyles. With so many options now available to charge up from home to auto or buying into a juice pack or other portable pack this is becoming less of an issue.

Just my thoughts.. Overall if this phone stands up to real world performance of no lag issues and camera performs as expected LG has dropped the new flagship for Android in my opinion.

I think they should have gone with 32/64gb of storage like HTC did with the One. I won't complain about the battery, because I don't care about removable batteries. But this one is also LARGE.

The good is everything I've seen so far.

The bad is what's unknown. What about a Developer Edition? The camera performance needs to be tested, but on paper it looks good.

I'm actually really digging the button placement after paying attention to how I actually hold my phone. What they said about your index finger makes a lot of sense.

Really disappointed it does not have an micro sd slot. Guess I'm going to have to go with the Galaxy S4. I have a 64 gb sd card filled with music and tried the cloud and I realized the cloud just doesn't work for much other than doc's and maybe pictures.

I tried Google Play Music but the streaming is pretty bad. Songs sound real low quality most of the time. And I live in the Los Angeles area. Can't even imagine people trying to use the cloud in most places around the country.

    Phone looks really nice though.

Can't speak for you specific situation, but did you change the settings in Play Music to always stream the high quality?

My question is, how pocket friendly will that power button/volume control/camera shutter on the back of the phone be? If I stick that phone in my pocket and sit or move a certain way, will I be toggling the power button or shooting photos while the thing is in my pocket? Having the power button on the side or top of the phone keeps it out of the way when the phone is in a pair of jeans. Having it on the back might be too easy to engage when you don't want it.

SD card slot is not really that big a deal to me. I thought it would be but after having my G for a while, I don't miss a card at all and I still have plenty of room internally. Same with non-removable battery. I thought it would be a "bad" but it ends up I have no problem with not having to mess with the battery.

Yeah, I'm disappointed as well. I had this one on the short list of upcoming phones I'm interested in...not anymore.

I was highly surprised at the rumors that said it would have a removable battery, so that was a bit of a disappointment that it doesn't, although it's not that big of a deal considering how large the battery turned out to be. But to take away SD support...that's the killer. I just don't understand it when companies do this...remove functions that were there in previous models (and this IS the iterative model of the OG, no matter how you look at it).

Other than that, I really like what I see. But no SD support takes it out of the running. At least with Nexus phones I know going in that there probably won't be a removable battery or SD support. With the revelations today, I'm now uninterested in it. I'll take a hard look at the Note 3 and next Nexus phone now. My S4 can hold me over until then.

Thanks just changed the settings from normal to high quality. But I'm worried because it uses more data. See thats why I need the micro sd slot. Dont have to worry about a cloud and data usage especially being on Verizon on a 4gb a month plan.

The removable battery and microSD are for the S.Korean model which is what happens when we take a leaked manual not meant for the US (or other global sites) as spot on. Still a solid device, the battery part I guess shouldn't bother me so much but I do prefer to swap mine rather than charge or have a battery case which is now out of the question given those buttons.

Still on my list, but I will see what the GN3 offers in the next few weeks 9/4/13 announcement.

I made a few playlists that I keep pinned. 90% of the time they cover what I want to listen to. The other 10% of the time I'm ok using some data to listen to other stuff.

That's just me, though. YMMV. I don't like SD cards, so I'll work around not having them.

Can anyone confirm that there isn't an SD slot? There's conflicting information all over the web.

The only tray that you can see in any pic is the SIM card tray. The back is non-removable. So, there isn't one.

Not having a multi-window feature similar to Samsung is what's deal breaking to me, or at least should be. I'd probably end up being impulsive and get it if it releases before the Galaxy Note 3 is announced.

For me, the only ugly from today is that there's no mention of a Google Edition...and there likely won't be since it seems LG may be doing the next Nexus anyway. This phone would be a perfect candidate for a Google Edition or Nexus. Onscreen buttons, large capacity battery, no microSD (a plus for me given how poorly memory card performance is)...give me a Google Edition and this is my next phone. I have zero interest in skins and LG's is even busier than Samsung's (ugh)... I didn't even think that was possible.

I don't see a lot of bad points about the phone. To be honest I never change batteries on my Samsung and 30000mAh is a pretty damn big battery. The power and volume button on the back isn't that bad either... because I looked at how I hold my phone when I use it and I have a finger in that area anyways. The only thing that concerns me is storage space... I think I use more space than the average user because I play a lot of large games and use my camera alot. I put a 64GB SD card in my Samsung SGS3 and now I have 100GB of total storage and I'm loving it!

So the only thing I'm worried about is the expandable memory. Other than that... this phone looks amazing!

Lack of an SD card is a disappointment. The internal storage on the phone is fine for the apps I run but I prefer to load music and save my pictures to an SD card. This is not an option on my HTC One and I am able to work with it but I would prefer an SD card.

I am waiting to get my hands on it. On paper it looks like it will be my next phone but until I am able to use it who knows.

The ugly seems to be the software side of this phone. The in depth hands on review I read made it sound like the software kills any hardware advantage. I wish there was a way to get stock on this with Verizon, otherwise I'm scared away. Judge for yourself below:

I'll be waiting until Verizon announces.
It will be after the new Droid line becomes available and also after the HTC One.
No matter.I have to buy off contract anyway. Looks like Motorola has lost me as a customer, since they have decided not to play in the high-end phone arena.
The X and Droid phones are not in the same league as this phone, not even close.....

I have 2 questions that I'm worried about.

    1. Being LG, I heard the Android updates were bad when it came to the LG and Optimus line. How do you think it will be?

    2. With a non-removable battery, how do you reset a phone when stuff goes wrong like slowing down or something like that? I know some times with my Nexus S 4G, turning off the phone some times doesn't work because it freezes. So I have to actually TAKE the battery OUT for it to reset and work. With not being able to take a battery out, how would this work with a phone???

    I appreciate the help.

As far your second question, Im sure its like most phones with non removable battery where you just hold down the power button and or the volume button at the same time and it completely restarts it. I have a Droid Razr Maxx with a non removable battery and if my phone does freeze I just hold power and volume buttons and it works 100 percent of the time.

Okay thanks. I literally took out my SD card this morning with 50 gb of music and I'm messing with google play music and seeing how I do without it. So far it doesnt seem bad actually I like that I can search any song or album and they have it.

As far as pinning it seems like a good thing for a small amount of music... like just a few mp3's. Because it stores it on your device and it takes up like 5-10 mb a song... I was just trying it and pinned like 10 albums and I just saw my Storage space go way down. Keep in mind im doing this without an SD and just my phones storage which is 8 gb.

But overall I like google play music all access. I might just keep it and just accept that they are phasing out the micro sd card from phones.
