Default Battery stays at 100% for 3 hours of moderate use

I used the phone when I got it, let it charge overnight, and in the morning of course it was 100%. I used it periodically through the morning and after 3 hours I started getting really concerned that it didn't budge from 100%, not even 99%. I thought something was broken like it wasn't communicating with the battery. The battery info screen said it was collecting information, please wait, for estimated time remaining. So I called verizon and first person said well the G2 has a great battery so there's nothing wrong with what I'm seeing. I then spoke to tech support and he didn't know what to think about it, and I was ready to return it thinking my phone will always tell me 100% until the battery dies. After about a half hour on phone with verizon figuring out what to do, and countless phone reboots, it dropped to 99%. I still wasn't satisfied thinking how could it go for so long using only 1%... so the verizon tech called LG support. LG support said well there's nothing abnormal about that, our phone has a super great battery in it. I then asked, well maybe the battery controller logic has a bug or it's confused or hung up somehow so how do I do a full cold reset, equivalent to battery pull? LG said you cannot do that with this phone. So I really hope if the phone freezes one day, holding power for 8 seconds or whatever it is will respond. It seems like software has to be running to handle that form of reset since it pops up a confirmation message. Anyway, my phone eventually started dropping % at a rate that I considered to be more consistent with use, and I let it go down to about 12% before charging it up some (it went about 30 hours).

So we'll see what happens with my phone tomorrow but I'm wondering if anyone else finds that it doesn't drop from 100 for a long time.

That is kinda crazy. I don't think I'd trust much of what the people at the store have to say. They didn't even know the phone was coming out. The phone's battery isn't THAT good.

I'd agree, if you're trending for 19 days of light to moderate usage, something isn't right or we all need to buy this phone and create a shrine to LG.

My phone sat on 100% for 3 hours too with the first charge. Second charge it did stay a while on 100% but maybe a more realistic 1.5 hour.

Same first charge. But it lasts a long time. I can handle a day on a full charge where my nexus I'd have to charge at least twice a day

It's funny, I think we're all so used to crappy battery life with phones (I know I am), so when one comes along that's SO much better than any we've used before, we have a hard time believing it. It really is insanely good, so let's give credit where credit is due. The combination of the higher capacity battery, lower power consumption of the processor, and whatever else LG has done, is apparently creating some great real-world numbers.

    Enjoy!

The real question is what kind of battery life will you see in a month? 3 months? 6 months? 12 months? Most batteries do great when new. This is an area when it's not bad to be able to simply swap in a brand new battery...especially for those that will actually keep their phones a while.

Since the battery life everyone is reporting is so good and so much better than any phone sans the Maxx, I think there's certainly room for normal battery degradation. Couple that with the need for fewer charge /discharge cycles, and I really don't see the need for concern.

I mean really, concern after one month, three months, really? I know you love your S4, but let's keep this real.

The LG G2 does have very good battery. I've ran both my HTC Thunderbolt and S3 for 2 years each and i hardly noticed any degradation in battery. I do not think the LG G2 will suddenly go from excellent battery to poor battery in a year. Unless you're charging your phone 3 times a day, then maybe.

No...not concern after less than a year, but will one still be getting the same battery life they got in the first week during those aforementioned timespans. I don't really love my S4 but I appreciate what it has to offer me. What I believe I will really like is a Note 3.

Big hi-res screen. Enough RAM to just take for granted. A veritable Lucy Liu of processing power. The S-Pen and all her functionality. Jucy battery. Expandable storage. IR baster. ...yes, that's a phone I think I could really like.

But something draws you to an LG g2 thread. Interesting. ;-)

I generally only hang out in threads for products I'm interested in. I see no point in knocking equipment I have no interest in. But that's me.

The first few % go really slow on this phone. It was the same on the Optimus G Pro. You can't really trust the first 1-2% and definitely don't use that as a benchmark for how long your battery will last.

The good news is, after it finally drops to 99%, it will drain much more steadily and realistically and battery life on this phone is simply awesome.

I have an interest in most Android phones, if I have no desire to own all of them. I didn't realize I was "knocking" anyone's equipment. I must sound like a troll to you. Sorry...gone.

I went from an S4 to the G2, and there is a humongous difference in battery. I've never seen a phone last this long. With my heavy usage and being up for twelve hours it just hits 50%. I too have noticed it sits at 100% for a long amount of time. I guess it has to do with the two batteries maybe? After it hits 99% though it goes down at a pace that seems legit :P.

My One does the same thing

Just to check, install an app called "Battery Widget Reborn". It will give you accurate drain readings and you can compare to your stock battery widget

Take it with a grain of salt my friend.

The battery indicator for all phones has always been nonlinear. It appears that the lower the charge the quicker it drains - it drains really slowly between 100 to 90 but much more quickly between 20 and 10%. That means that when it shows "50%" it's actually more like 33%

I've had the G2 for 3 months now. Stock, not rooted, and moderate use. During the first few weeks, it would stay for a long time at 100%. Eventually, the length of time where it seemed to stay at 100% decreased to where I think it is giving a more accurate reading. So, for those of you concerned about why your brand new G2 stays at 100% for so long, I wouldn't worry about. Just give it a few more weeks and it will settle down to give you a more accurate reading. In the mean time, just enjoy the ride.

100% on my G2 will remain quite long even I play a game in short time, IF we charge it longer even G2 light notification already green when charging. I tested this couple of time. So when red light become green and I disconnect the charger ASAP, 100% battery will goes down to 99% quickly, but If I let it charging much longer, then 100% will stay much longer too.
