    Default Wireless Storage problems

    Hey there,
I tried to connect my computer to my T-Mobile G2 wirelessly using the Wireless storage feature on my G2, but on my computer when I type in the address, it says "The webpage is not available". Any solutions to fixing this? I would like to transfer music from my PC to my phone without using a USB cord. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit if that matters, and both are connected to the same wi-fi signal.

    Thanks!

Yup the first thing I found when Googling this was your forum post, to which I tried all of the things and still didn't work.

Are you trying it from a web browser page, file explorer, or did you try both without success?

did you enter it in as " smb:\\..."

if you don't preface it with the smb instead of ftp or html then it won't connect.

Im facing the same problem and Im on Mac OSX. 10.8.5

I have tried Safari, Chrome, File Explorer and none of these work.
I have tried smb:\\, the \\G2 extension and these did not help either.

I heard that on Macs I will have trouble transferring files from Mac to G2 but G2 to Mac should work fine. However, I cant even connect to the G2. Very Strange.

I'm on a 15" Macbook pro and I do the following:
DON'T use Safari. It works MUCH better to use the Finder to connect to it like a shared server.

From the finder, go to "GO" menu and select "Connect to Server"

Then enter the address as "smb:\\xxx.xxx.xx.xx " X's being replaced with the appropriate IP address you're phone will give you

It will then prompt you for you name and password and those are on you phone as well.

Nah none of the above helped. Should my device show up in Networks and Sharing in Windows when I turn it on?

No it doesn't show as a network device.

I tried this on Chrome and it did not work. Tried it in Internet Explorer and it worked. Go figure.

I'm still having trouble. Windows 7. Have tried both the addresses given on the phone in Chrome, IE and through the explorer on my computer. It never works. Any other troubleshooting ideas?

Are you including the two backslashes?

You definitely want to use Windows Explorer. Type the IP address including the slashes in the address bar and press Enter. You should be prompted for a username and password.

You also might want to mention what actually happens when it fails to work. Error message? Etc.

Last thing, and it should be obvious: Both your computer and your phone will need to be on the same network when you're doing this.

Yeah, I did the two backslashes. I tried again in WE. On same network also. I am attaching a picture of the error:

Try it with the IP address instead of the name (probably \\192.168.1.X -- where X is specific to your phone).

I've tried it with the IP address and the other vs980 one numerous times with the same error for both. Also have tried mapping it as a drive to no avail.

Let's stick with the IP address track for now. What's your computer's IP address? And what's your phone IP address? Get the former by going to a command prompt (Start...Run...cmd) and typing ipconfig.

When I add in the "smb:\\" or "smb://" part, it gives me this error instantly:

For me the ip gave me an error but the name worked and I'm on Windows 7.

This was the exact issue I has back in the day with BlackBerry.

The default was "afp." I changed it "smb" and it worked. Thank(ed)s.

Super late response, but for anyone still having issues on Windows, just use Internet Explorer like ShinyTop mentioned and it will work. I was trying it on Google Chrome as well as through Windows Explorer directly and it didn't work but IE did.

Thumbs down Re: Wireless Storage problems

I have been trying since Boxing Day to fix this problem, ringing my ISP, Router peeps, LG, Phone provider and they all said it was a Microsoft error and game this to download
    Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit
    Here you are:

Download Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit from Official Microsoft Download Center

    Dear blue duck butter:

Did you solve the wireless storage problem? I found this thread and saw that I am having exactly the same problem as you (I hope) were. Same error messages, and I am on Windows 7 64 bits.
