Default LG G2 connecting as "Wireless-G" on Linksys E1000 N150 router

Does anyone know why my LG G2 is showing as "Wireless-G" on my Linksys E1000 N150 router? When I switched the mode to N-Only inside the router my LG G2 wouldn't connect to it at all; when I switched it to Mixed Mode it connects as G. LG G2 is compatible with the wireless N technology and my wireless router has ots latest firmware.

Is my router at fault (for being somewhat old) or is it my phone's fault?

That's weird. Where did you get your phone--was it directly it from the wireless company, or did you possibly get it on eBay or from some reseller? On the off chance it was the latter, then I'd wonder about the possibility of a counterfeit device with subpar parts.

Have you tried it on another network, and checked the connection there? Go to Settings>Wi-Fi, and long-press the network that's being used, then Modify Network. It should give you the connection speed. If it's over 54 MBPS, that means it has to be N, since 54 is the max for G (remember, we're not talking about download speeds--we're talking about network communication speed). So if you can connect to another network at a speed over 54 MBPS, then you know your phone's N reception should be fine, and there is probably something wrong with your router.

I just noticed your other post about the same problem with a Nexus 5. If the same problem is having with two phones that clearly have wireless N capability, then the problem has to be with the router. Have you rebooted it? If that didn't help, then I would consider a full reset of the router--look at its manual to learn how.

E1000 was never a very good router. Set encryption to wpa2 aes and turn off any wireless g devices that are also connected. Serif that improves things

I got my Nexus 5 directly from Google Play Store and the LG G2 is from a Verizon store (work phone).

I did reboot the router + reset it to factory defaults (I backup the configuration before doing it, then restored them) and still the router's showing my Nexus 5 as wireless G; the link speed, on the phone, says "54Mbps" which is the G type...I opened another thread on the LG G2, with the same text, because my work phone is the G2 and it's doing the same thing with the wireless G on the wi-fi router.

The Linksys E1000 was given to me as a freebie with my previous AT&T DSL service (now I have Comcast) 3 years ago...even back then it was the lowest end of Linksys wireless routers.
My wireless security is set to WPA2 Personal and when I chose the network mode as "Wireless-N Only" my Nexus 5 & LG G2 phone wouldn't connect to it at all; the wi-fi connection was saved but it wasn't moving. They connected after I set my network mode to "Mixed Mode" and now both phones show up as "Wireless-G" on the DHCP Reservation list.
So it might be the router's fault and age...I didn't try connecting to another secure wireless-N network to see if the phone shows up differently (other than G)

Maybe flash to dd-wrt firmware? Sounds like wireless n might be draft version....dd-wrt might improve compatibility

The router has the latest firmware, from Linksys, and it was released last February; my router probably has the "draft N" technology and that may be why the new devices cannot use the full N speed the router has.

The ddwrt firmware is not from linksys. It is a third party opensource firmware with significant more features.

Nah...I don't want to mess with 3rd party firmware. I may just get a newer wireless-N router.
