I've had my phone a week, immediately upgraded to lollipop then did a factory reset. Some days perfect, some super fast discharge and slow charging.
Currently, after a rapid discharge cycle, it just isn't charging. 15% battery after a 12 hour charge. My plan is another factory reset, but I'm wondering if I'll reach the required 30% to do so!!!
Do I have any other options?!?

i suffer no hardships doing this -

Battery Tips for Android

1. Toggle off High Accuracy GPS Mode, Bluetooth, NFC,
Hotspot/Tethering. Toggle on only as needed. (Set GPS Mode to "Battery
Saving" Mode).
2. Display Brightness - Turn off Auto Brightness and Reduce Setting
Bar to Minimum Acceptable to you.
3. Sign out of any unused Google Services like G+, Google Now, Hangouts, etc.
4. Disable Location Reporting and Location History.
5. Beware of constantly syncing in background Apps and Bloatware like
Facebook, Twitter, Weather Channel, Games, Google News/Weather,
Non-Push Email, etc. Set Sync interval for every 1 hour or more and
change settings to stop the syncing of data you don't need. Delete
their Apps and use their Web Page if acceptable.
6. Turn Off Hot Word "Hotword Detection" Always Listening Mode in
Google Search if you don't use it.
7. Turn Off Auto Camera/Photo Upload or at least set it for Upload on WIFI Only.
8. Turn Off Vibrate on Touch for Display, Keyboard, etc.
9. Turn Off Touch Sounds and Unlock Sounds.
10. Turn Off Ambient Display/Active Display Notifications if you don't need it.
11. Don't use a Live Wallpaper. Use a dark wallpaper if possible.
12. Set Display Sleep Setting to 2 Minutes or Less.
13. WIFI Settings - Advanced -
a. Network Notification - Set as OFF.
b. Scanning Always Available - Set as OFF.
c. Keep WIFI on during Sleep - Set as ALWAYS if you regularly use
WIFI. OK to keep WIFI on if you regularly use it.
14. Turn Off Always Vibrate in Gmail/Email.
15. Be careful of using too many Live Widgets and what/how often they sync.
16. Set MS Exchange Sync at 30 Days or Less if you use it.
17. Do NOT use a Task Killer App or Battery Saver App.
18. Uninstall ALL Apps that you never use. If you haven't used an
App in one month, uninstall it.
19. Reboot your phone at least once a month.
20. Wipe Cache Partition at least once a quarter or after every OS Update.
21. Consider a Factory Data Reset with a manual re-sync, manual
reinstall of all data and Apps after every major OS Letter Update.
Make sure that all of your data is first backed up to Google and
Dropbox, etc.

"I SUFFER NO HARDSHIPS DOING THIS" - this means that i personally am
giving up NOTHING with these tips. i'm not giving up any features.
there are no tradeoffs for me. a tradeoff or a hardship would be to
turn off PUSH email or use AIRPLANE mode during the day etc.

you have to find your own balance and the tips list is a start but you
must come to your own conclusion as to what's important. it's personal
preference but these are not a big deal to me at all as they do not
affect the function or operation of my phone. these tips do not
deteriorate my experience.

Thanks - I believe I've seen this list, and have implemented many of them.....
But my 6 hour battery life (can't even keep up when plugged in!) and inability to charge quicker than a couple days means I have much bigger issues than Google Now sucking down my battery. I was hopeful the reports I'd seen of this wouldn't impact me - instead I seem to be in the absolute worst shape!

BTW, i did wipe my cache prior to the latest incident, and had turned off most of the running Google services - to no avail. Hoping I can make it to 30% and do a factory reset again, and pray this works!

Otherwise I may be returning the phone...

Monitor with GSam App for a day or two -

Did a factory reset, rebuild, and things looked better.
Had a nice long day of battery life. Then I plugged in, and essentially no charging. All night charging and I got to 15%! Then it finally charged over the next 24 hours.
Now my battery seems to be short today, with Android System using 50% of the power after sitting mostly idle all day.

Any insight on this?

Charging the battery overnight with the phone turned off seems to have made a big difference. I have been of work for the last week so I have not had to rely on my phone as much so I have been turning it off at night while it charges. Turned it on at 7am the last several days and it has been finishing out the day in the 70 to 80% battery remaining range which is still a significantly better average remaining on my usual days off. The real test will come when I go back to work later this week.

In general, turning it off while charging has made some difference for me.

My phone did decide to charge yesterday. In 4hr 25min of use today, it's down to 98%, and tells me I have 57 hours remaining. I guess it's trying to make up for the very short days it has given me..... ;)

Just a quick update - my phone has had 3 days worth of crazy long battery life. At the end of a 15-16 hour day, it still has 30% left. I did nothing out of the ordinary to achieve this after my horrible battery life. Maybe it does just take time for Lollipop and the battery to acclimate to each other?

Unfortunately I need to switch back to my iPhone 5S for a while so I can play around with Car Play in my vehicle.

I just wanted to let others know maybe the gremlins are short-lived. I hope they don't come back again....

well....

Back to work and back to bad battery life. From 6:30 am to noon today went from 100% to 35%. Recharged and now at 7:40 pm, I am back down to 17%.. Same results yesterday.

GSAM does not report any particular app as the culprit although android system is at 29.7% and android kernel is 11.5% followed by google play services at 7.9%.

This is crazy. Phone gets very hot, signal is OK usually between decent 3g and marginal 4g. Locked up several times today and has been rebooting itself a few times a day... probably due to overheating.

I turn off location and wifi at work and have followed almost all of the suggestions above.

back to the drawing board...

Well, at least you determined that it has something to do with your location.
