Video formats

Has anyone tried to convert any movies to play on this phone? I'm coming from an HTC Evo Lte and when I tried to format a video file at 1920x1080 and compared it to the Evo file at 1280x720, the LG looked dull and washed out. Curious if anyone knows what formats would work best to really show the HD quality it has

I have my movies encoded @ 1920x1080 using H.264/AVC (High@L4.0) in an .MP4 container. They look great to me.
