Default LG G3 RAM and internal storage question

    Hi,

I am purchasing the LG G3 this weekend but I'm seeking clarification of the benefits in purchasing a phone with 32GB/3GB ram over the now somewhat standard 16GB/2GB RAM configuration. There is a £80 difference between the two configurations but the price is not an issue as long it's justifiable for my needs. People tend to bring up future proofing but what I'm interested in are the present day benefits.

Benchmarks have already shown a minimal increase in performance by having the additional ram in the G3. What I'm interested in however are two things:

    1. I usually have a large amount of Apps installed on my phone. Does the KitKat OS have a set amount of storage space for apps and installation, say 2GB for example? If this is the case does the reserved space increase with 32GB and 64GB models? Or can you use the entire free space theoretically to install apps?

    2. Whilst having more ram doesn't improve performance greatly at present, does it at least mean I can run apps without experiencing lag and crashes as frequently? I have quite a few games installed on my current phone as well as various apps to assist with work and your more general apps. I tend to experience slow down, freezing and crashing (the game and the entire phone in some instances) at the moment.

Any help and information greatly appreciated. I've been searching all over for answers.

    Thanks

I'd get the 32GB model simply because it has double the storage. 3GB of RAM would just be a small bonus but that wouldn't make nearly as much of a difference. 2 is enough for anything you need to do.

Agreed, kinda. With the dual app screen option the more random access memory the better. I've used phones that have the option for 2 apps on screen at once but they all at 1 to 2 gigs of ram which just didn't allow both apps to run normally but 3 gigs allows the g3 to do it better than any other phone I've seen.

Thanks guys for your input. That's something I hadn't considered with regards to dual apps and something I was actually looking forward to using. So thank you for that tid bit.

UJ95X, does that extra space allow for greater apps installation? I currently have a 32GB memory card which I'll be transferring from my Galaxy Note to the G3 so space just for storing pics and so on is not essential.

Yes, you can download more apps directly to your phone. Very few apps allow moving to the SD card, so if you think 16 isn't enough I'd go for the high end model.

Thank you both again. With that said, it looks like the winner for me is the 32GB. I don't want to drag it out, but what caused all the confusion for me in the first instance is the attached screenshot taken from my phone.

My Galaxy Note is 16GB, however it appears to have only reserved 2GB for app installations. This is what initially caused me to seek clarification, as I suspected it would be a similar story for any phone regardless of the storage size i.e. 16/32/64GB.
