LG G3 Text message icon always shows I have messages, even when I don't. How can I turn this off?

LG G3 Text message icon always shows I have messages, even when I dont

This started about 2 weeks after purchase. The text message icon always says I have messages even if I delete all of them or read all of them. Sometimes it says I have 1 message, sometime it says I have 8 messages. NEVER shows none. I have no 3rd party messaging app. Just the out of the box app.

I have already tried the following:
- Turning phone on/off
- Clearing cache in Settings. Apps, Messenger etc...

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the G3 forum at least. Sorry you've had no reply. I guess you could try a Clear Data in the app manager, but you'd lose all your texts and Messaging settings, and it may start happening again afterwards.
Try Settings, Storage, Cached Data, and clear the cache.

B...Thanks for the input. I already did that. Even deleted all of my texts manually. Still shows 8 messages.
