Headphone jack operating but headphones not connected

The icon for the earphone jack has started to independently toggle on and off on my LG 3 phone. As a result, the sound toggles on and off. If I put a phone call into speaker mode, it seems to over ride it; ditto when I have my blue tooth earpiece on. I can't find which app is working on the background. We thought we had it when we discovered music playing in the music app, but I deleted the songs and still having the problem. If I put my earphones in I can hear. When I take them out the sound is normal for awhile, then it seems to revert back again to earphone mode!

Welcome to Android Central! Inspect the jack closely--is there any debris in there? Try blowing it out with a can of compressed air, or root around with a damp toothpick.
