When plugged in LG3 firm ware update came on it's doing nothing, how can I get it working?

Firmware update? Or did you start in download mode? If it's download mode, just hold the power button (it may take 30 seconds) until the phone restarts, or just pull the battery. If it's really a firmware update, bring it to your carrier and let them pull the battery and corrupt the ROM. Then they'll have to fix it.
