Missing Equalizer

Hi Guys,
Just got my G4 and tried listening to some music through Google Play Music but the sound quality is atrocious! It's so flat and I can't seem to find any way to make it better.
Play Music on my Nexus 5 had an equaliser in the settings menu that seems to be missing from the version on the G4. (Both exactly the same build btw: v5.9.1854R.1904527).

The stock music player does have an EQ, but I don't have any locally stored music.
Anyone else have the same issue?

Screenshots show the EQ option on my Nexus 5 and missing from G4

Thanks

I noticed this as well. My S5 and note 4 had the equalizer but my g3, g4, and iphone 6+ did not. I really liked the eq as well.

Yep I noticed that yesterday. I was pretty bummed.

Just found this out myself, ugh. It wasn't perfect but it did help some. I tried the settings in the included Music app but it didn't have an affect. Is there any kind of third-party equalizer that will work?

I"d be amazed if Google didn't send an update. No carrier based reason that I can think of for not having this feature, and the last think Google wants is for the app to not be used.

Hi Reuel, I have a new LG G4 and the equalizer in Play Music is missing. How can I have it restored in this version? Android 5.1. Thanks!
I looked under General in settings

Ok. You said this is a new phone?
I'm wondering if you may need to check for an update to the Play Music App.
me 2:55 PM
Yes brand new just released.
Reuel L 2:55 PM
Would you do me a favor?
me 2:56 PM
sure!

Please open the Play Store for me.

ok

I'd like you to go to 'My Apps'.
Let's have you search for Google Play Music and see if there's an update available and install it.
me 2:57 PM
ok one moment
Reuel L 2:57 PM
Ok.
me 2:58 PM
I don't see an update
Reuel L 2:59 PM
Hmm. Give me a moment to grab a device. Would you look up your version number for the app please?
me 3:01 PM
sure
v5.9.1854r
there's more numbers after that :)
Reuel L 3:02 PM
Please, that would be great.
me 3:02 PM
all the numbers?
Reuel L 3:03 PM
Please, sir!!
So you didn't see equalizer in the General section above? It should be between My devices and Block explicit song on Radio.
me 3:03 PM
5.9.1854R.1904527

Reuel L 3:04 PM
Hmm. That's the latest version.
I'm looking at the equalizer right now.
There is a chance your hardware on your new phone might not support that feature too.
You might need to check with the manufacturer. Maybe a system update?
me 3:04 PM
? really it's a high end phone - on par with samsung s6
Reuel L 3:08 PM
Yes, I understand.
But the Equalizer should be in the General 'Settings' between those two items I mentioned.
I'd think if it was supported, it should show up.
You obviously have the latest version installed.
You could try unistalling the update and reinstalling it too.
That'd be done in:
Settings>Application Manager>'All' tab>Google Play Music>Uninstall updates
I will have to admit, I'm baffled because I'm looking at the Equalizer right now on this phone.

me 3:08 PM
ok will try later thanks

My G3 doesn't have the EQ in Play Music either. I use the stock player, so I never cared.

I think LG made the EQ only compatible with their music app.

Yup, the G3 doesnt have it either. That's the main reason I don't use Play Music because set flat, the music is lifeless.

Must be an LG thing, not one on the G2 either. Didn't even know they had one on other phones.

Good assumption...

Hello Tardus,

Thank you for contacting Google. It was a pleasure chatting with you about your issues you've been experiencing with the Equalizer not showing on your LG G4 phone. As you saw, we checked for the latest version and verified you had the proper version installed. For some reason, the Equalizer isn't appearing in your Play Music App's settings menu.

There is a possibility you may need to check with LG about this in case there is a compatibility issue and maybe the hardware won't support that function. I did check on a device we had here and the Equalizer was appearing on a different type of Android phone in the Settings Menu for the Play Music App right where I advised you it should be located. There's a chance you may need a system update to your device to support the functionality. Since our troubleshooting didn't resolve the issue, you'll want to check with LG.

Thanks,

The Google Support Team

Shame. I use google play since they added the ability to copy and maintain your entire itunes library. This is a bummer.

This is a real shame if it's intentionally left out by LG. Does anyone know of any app I can use alongside Play Music to make it sound better?

There are several EQ apps available from the Play Store, buy they either don't work.... Or they just suck.

I tried a few of them for my G3. I ended up rooting, so I ran Viper4Android Audio. It worked well.

I just picked up the jaybird bluebuds the other week and my G4 yesterday. Coming from the Z3, the g4's audio is killing me. It's so crackly. I hope this gets sorted out or someone figures out a fix

When is it crackly - over BT, wired, both? I use a cheap pair of BT at times and it's not crackly. And with wired headphones the sound (to my non audiophile ears) is close to perfection with a little tweaking from the Poweramp's equalizer (not streaming).

Please provide more detail. You might have a defective phone.

Yeah I'm wondering the same thing. When is your music crackly? Over the Bluetooth on the car it sounds amazing. The headphones sound good too only not as loud as I like it. No crackly though.

Is anyone else's stock player EQ grey out and not adjustable from 'normal'

I can hear it best(or worst) on While my Guitar Gently Wheeps. I was listening to it 2 says ago on my Z3 and recall thinking how crystal clear everything was. It's just not like that. I guess crackly might not be the best descriptor. The highs seem to peak and it's a tad unpleasant. The lows sound great, it just seems like treble is the issue. I hope it's not defective!

I'll give the wired buds a shot, but I only have the quadbeats provided with the device. I have 3 pairs of bt stereo earbuds.

Also, will try in the car after work.

Other than this the phone is ******* perfect.
