Will the carriers sell the LG G5 unlocked?

A

AC Question

When the LG G5 comes out, will carriers sell it unlocked right away or will we have to wait a little?

Not sure I plan on buying mine unlocked pending it has full LTE support for North America, I know one thing Best Buy sucks major buttocks for what they are doing charging 800.00 if you want to just buy the phone vs getting it on a plan. So they will not get my money I will just wait for Expansys USA to get it up on their site as I know unlocked it shouldn't cost that much hell the GS7 edge isn't even that high unlocked.

AFAIK AT&T's policy is still that they will not unlock ANY device until it has been on the market for more than one year. (It used to be they would unlock anything after you had gone off-contract, or been a customer more than 90 days, or other variations, but last I checked they'd just gone greedy.)

B&H Photo is selling an unlocked G5 that's made for the US. Not sure yet if anyone else will be selling an unlocked model like that.

I'm not sure that's entirely legal.
