G5 camera thoughts

Have had the phone for about a week, moving from the V10 which spoiled me with its camera (I am a hobbyist photographer). I've read some overall positive reviews about the G5's cameras but notice 2 things off the bat:
1. The wide angle camera tends to result in lower quality/mottled/fuzzy shots at 100%
2. Both cameras tend to result in photos with high grain or noise even at low ISOs (50, 100, etc.) and well lit conditions.

I'm picky with my camera and like to have the cleanest shots to work with. Granted, it's not a DSLR and yes I can use that for more important shots, but in comparison to those on the V10, I didn't notice these soft or grainy issues as much. I feel like things are slightly out of focus or mottled. Or maybe I'm just spending too much time pixel peeping and should just accept it :)

Example with wide angle, ISO 50 auto. Very soft and mottled at 100%

Example with regular lens, ISO 50 auto. Good focus but bokeh is grainy.

Other times I get lucky and get some cleaner shots like those here, with the help of a filter and minor adjustments:

It's been inconsistent. What are your experiences/suggestions?

Appreciate the sharing. You have some good results. Curious to see one at 100%. For my example here, it appears ok zoomed out, but if you zoom in, it looks very fuzzy, almost like a watercolor painting effect https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7307/27861700182_3d65673793_o.jpg. Could be camera shake, not sure. I'll keep trying.

To compare, a clean shot:

Maybe it's that the G5's image compression method is a bit different from what I was used to on the V10.

Edit: Apparently it's the processing. Bummer but I'll live! https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/4e2p6k/lg_g5s_jpeg_processing_has_heavy_sharpening_and/

enjoying mine so far. whites are what I was expecting and colors are pretty accurate.

gotta turn off the AUTO HDR though, only turn it on when needed, if only they can have shortcut buttons on the camera UI.

sample using the wide angle lens

In good lighting, its great, now indoors with low light, not as good as the G7. Then again the wide angle lens makes up for it. I do agree with the OP that when you zoom in a bit it looses quality real quick.

Quality has been reduced because of the hosting site, but they look spectacular in the phone.

Definetly not the best performing camera in darker conditions but pretty good overall.

Auto focus is a bit weird sometime s and software definitely needs inprovement.

Esp. When attaching the cam plus module tapping to focus doesnt really work. When you tap to focus and press the shutter button on the module it cancels it out since the focus feature on the camplus is just set to its center

Might be a good idea to have an option the lock AF when tapped and do a continuous AF on it so that when using the physical button on the camplus it will only re confirm the focus you have previously selected.

Ive got a lot of quirks on its software, icons cant be distinguished esp for a first time lg user since g2. I cant understand the modes since there are no helper texts to tell me what those icons mean.

Quality of the wide lens is okay but mushy which is expected.

Cant really compare it to a dslr level but it can conpete with the point and shoot cameras we have today.
