Default LG Lucid 2 VS870 4G running out of storage space

I keep getting a message that the phone is running out of storage space. On the phone under settings/storage, where it says mount sd card it says "insert card for mounting". It has grayed out letters. Looks to me as if the SD card is not installed yet. It has an 8gb microsd card in that slot on the back of the phone. I've turned off phone, unplugged that card and replugged it in. It still shows that about the card. All my photos are on sdcard0, which I understand is internal memory. Does this mean that microsd card is not working, since it doesn't seem to be recognizing it?
    Thank you for your help.

Hi, the phone isn't talking about the card and the card is most likely working fine. The message happens because the phone wants you to clear up more space in the phone. So if you can transfer more media and stuff onto your card and off your internal storage (phone) you'll eventually stop seeing the message. Let us know how it goes.

I keep as many files as possible on sdcard0, but it's still limited to approx 6.5gb of data that I can keep on the phone before I start getting that message.
In the specs on the phone it said there was 8gb of internal storage, and room for up to 64 gb on microsd card. Seeing that card there I assumed I had a total of 16gb of storage space. Then seeing that message under mount sd card made me question. I found in another place online that sdcard0 indicates internal storage not on a microssd card. Next time I'm near a Verizon store I'll stop in and ask them as well.

Yes that's right. Sdcard0 is your phone, not your card.

When you first get your phone, even if it's supposed to have 16GB internal storage, it will really only have around 10 to 12GB available to you because the OS and carrier software eat up about 4 to 6 gigs. So you probably have maybe 1.5 gigs free in your phone (maybe even more) but the phone wants you to know space is getting low.

As your phone (not the SDcard01) fills up, it will run more sluggishly.

Oh and you said you're supposed to have 8 GB storage. In that case you really only had about 4 GB to start with that wasn't taken up by the OS. So yes, by now the phone just wants to alert you that if you free up more space it may run better.

Here's advice from Stu40 that seems to work for a lot of people:

"This definitely works on the Galaxy S2 (I restored 1.4 gig of space after doing this), but not sure about the Galaxy Tab 2. A simple way to free up storage space is by deleting all the log files in the device memory. Just dial *#9900# on the tablet and select option 2 “Delete dumpstate/logcat” in the prompted menu. It's not necessary to root your android either."
