'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
I get this error about 2-3 times per day while text messaging. It happens randomly when I'm attempting to access my messages or while selecting to type out a new message to someone and then I have to hit 'ok' and go back and start over again (which will then work fine). Getting annoying. Any known fix for this? I'm using the stock messaging app that came with the phone and haven't added anything else to the phone.

Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
I was unable to capture a screenshot on the phone itself using quickmemo but I took a picture instead. This error appears to happen the most when I tap on a message (with the phone in the upright position) and then quickly turn the phone around so that the screen orientation and keyboard move to the widesceen position for easier typing to reply.

I would try to clear data for the messaging app first of that doesn't work use the backup utility and do a factory reset. About how many messages do you have

Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
Did you accept the ota or are you still running the release software. And it looks like all you can do is use a third party app. I sounds like somehow you got a bug on stock software which shouldn't happen. I would contact LG and have them look into it.

Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
I have the OTA latest update. Got it the first day I had the phone.
The Handcent sms works great. No error messages after heavy use yesterday and today. I think this proves that something is wrong with the stock messaging app and not the phone itself. No idea how to contact LG about it and I suspect I would just be wasting my time anyway. - 12-24-2012, 10:23 AM #11
Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
It's funny you mentioned this. I kept getting this error over and over again as well and yesterday it got bad. It completely crashed my phone and is now semi-bricked. I went to AT&T and they couldn't help. They said LG wouldn't help either because the glass backing on my phone is cracked.

Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
I thought I was the only one getting errors like this mine is really bad I would go to my messages & there would not be anything there & then the error would pop up & say unfortunately messaging has stopped & in order for me to send a text I would have to restart my phone it happens when I'm on instagram, twitter or Facebook its really annoying having to restart your phone 2-3 times a day

Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
Hold the home button down and hit clear all then task manager and hit stop all.
reboot.
I did this for google play and no more issues but only google play was giving me grief and it was after I received the new update yesterday for google play. - 04-15-2013, 06:02 AM #18
Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
Yes!!!!!! I use to get the same message every now & then. Just went to play store and downloaded Chomp Sms which started to send messages to the wrong contact so end up uninstall and back install as advice by developer but did not work. Then downloaded Go sms pro(used before) which thus far have been working in accordance.

Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
If you ask me it's not the phone it's your provider! If you are getting errors sending texts it's the fact your carrier can't handle it.

Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
I have the AT&T E970 variant (16GB internal, 8MP camera).
The only "....has stopped" error message I keep getting is when using Gmail and only when using the in-app back button to return to message list from within an open e-mail. I've only had my G for two weeks. I immediately updated to JB 4.1.2.
AT&T sales rep said people had issues with the update when it originally came out (month before I got my phone). I had a location data issue after updating (which took no time on this phone) but a factory reset fixed it. So far I've had only minor issues. The Gmail thing is annoying but I can use the capactive back button at the bottom of the display as a work around. In all other respects, the Gmail apps is slick and stable.
As for your SMS issue; I immediately went to Handcent. I'm a big dork and like to use Emojis which the stock SMS app does not support. Handcent is excellent and I have had no issues with it. Did you do a factory reset after updating to JB? Oh and if it has not already been suggested, use the paid version of Helium (formerly Carbon) to completely back up your phone's data and configuration before doing a factory reset. As fast as this phone is on downloads and installs, re-installing 216 apps was not fun.
I have been texting like a fiend since I got this phone (I am up to 1,616 in this billing cycle). My SMS never crashes or force closes. I'm wondering if my specific device was part of a later batch of devices less prone to the issues posted here. The only other thing I've done is disabled as much of the crapware from AT&T as I could to free up RAM. I am hoping for some stability patches from LG/Google just the same.Last edited by RenoD2010; 05-20-2013 at 09:47 PM.

Re: 'Unfortunately messaging has stopped'
I use the Sprint version. Yes tried a factory reset. Didn't help. Also tried Handcent and wasn't happy with it. It worked fine at first but then I started to not get notification sounds for incoming messages. Tried to fix it but could not. So deleted it and went back to stock messaging app.
