I would like to know how to reset my phone

Welcome to Android Central! It would help if you tell us the exact model of Optimus that you have, since the procedure can differ between phones. In general, you should just be able to go to Settings>Backup & Reset, and then select "Factory Data Reset." This will wipe all of your data, so make sure it's backed up or synced!

Can you tell us if you're having some kind of problem that necessitates a reset?

I am inclined to agree. A reset is an option to fix things, but not the end all be all.
