re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
I've lurked on these boards for a while, but finally registered to download files and ask a few questions.
I'm running a ZVH, all the standard implements of torture. The zergling rush from ZVHauto was successful, so I'm rooted and running clockwork. I flashed and installed gRom, which works beautifully, except for one thing: tethering.
The wifi tether app that comes with gRom doesn't work. I checked the thread, suggested updating. I tried beta 6(which came with the rom), and beta 9, and both don't work.
I tried jumping over to opti-rom, and that couldn't help me either.
Does your mom rom support tethering? Is there an app out there that will work with gRom? I'll go with whatever rom works, I hate the sprint one anyways. - 12-25-2011, 11:42 PM #28
re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
I think that Your Mom does include the wireless tethering widget. GIve that a go until HydroROM drops.

re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
If I am running stock GB with the latest version (8.1) of GingerKernel, and I tried to to flash a Your Mom Rom, what would happen? Would I revert back to GingerKernel 6.1 (because YMR now ships with 6.1), would I stay with 8.1, would I brick the phone, ow would something else happen?
- 12-31-2011, 07:27 PM #31
It would flash your mom in full (assuming you did a full wipe as told to :P) including the 6.1 version of gingerkernal. No issues, just boot backing android after flashing the rom, and give it a few good minutes (go have a beer or smoke a cigarette) then boot into recover and flash gingerKv8.1 and reboot and you are good to go, just remember you perform no wipes to flash the kernal.

ive tried installing Xionia custom recovery by copying the files onto the root of the sd card bot extracted both un extracted and either one extracted and one not extracted i cant get it to install when i am in recovery menu

re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
You have to use 'flash_image" to install the recovery from a working Android with ADB. Check the directions for Xionia recovery for more info. It's not like some devices, where it just gets installed on reboot.

re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
Rom Name: Tam Hydro ROM
Developer:
Summary: Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM built from Sprint/LG ZVH source. See changelog in the thread for more details.
If one 'l' is good, then is 'll' even better?
Apparently not when it leads to a 404 error

re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
Are there any ROMs out there compatible with 2.2.2, other than Kraven's? I tried that one and it didn't work, and I confess I may have done something wrong, but I was able to flash Reborn and am using that just fine. It just makes me a little leery since it's no longer supported.

re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
There are several ROMs that are compatible with ZVD, though not all of them are 2.2.2; CM7 is an example. You might also try sROM. If you are confused about the difference, please see my Welcome Guide, found in the stickies.
I don't know who is circulating the idea that Reborn is no longer supported or recommended. That ROM is about as solid as they come. The only thing that is inconvenient at present is that new users will have to update a bunch of stuff on first run, but most ROMs have you doing that if they are more than a couple months since packaging.Last edited by epidenimus; 03-27-2012 at 09:48 AM.

re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
yeah the ROM list needs to be updated, many ROMs that aren't included and some "discontinued" ROMS are actually still active. I would also sort the ROMs by whether they run off of ZVD or ZVH, and there is even some ICS ROMS in the works.

re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
I'm super busy with a house reno right now. I am not putting links to Alpha or experimental ROMs. Only stable ROMs that are safe for a newb.

Reborn is not supported by the DEV anymore, meaning he is not taking any bug reports or doing any updates. Reborn 2.2.4 is the last of the reborn line. Now that is not to say it is not widely used, cause it is, I use it myself. I still feel it is one of best roms!
Supported Roms mean they are being actively being updated by the Dev still.Last edited by blackops1125; 05-04-2012 at 11:37 AM.

re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
Supported and actively developed are two different things in my view. Example: Windows XP; folks are still producing compatible software and guys like me still have to support it, but there is no active development from Micro$oft. (It really does injustice to compare Reborn ROM to MS product, but it's what comes to mind.) Same thing with an Ubuntu LTS: they mostly just maintain the repos for 3 years instead of 1.5.
A good stable release does not need much developer support. - 05-04-2012, 11:52 AM #49Current Device(s): Motorola Droid Razr

Re: Sprint Optimus guide to Rooting, ROMs, Recoveries & Themes
I've actually used reborn but the only issue I had was the boot loading which took 5 minutes when normally it should be 1 minute to say the least. Now I'm running S rom and it's smooth and boots easily.
