[Update - fixed?] Did I brick my phone?

Update: sorry to jump the gun folks. After many more tries, I finally did get into Xionia, and I tried wiping the cache and dalvik-cache and reflashing GingerKernel 8.1. I was then able to boot into gROM. Mobile data and Wifi both seem to work. Woohoo! My very next step, as you can guess, was to do another nandroid.

Does anyone know if this is a sign of bigger problems (maybe my CPU is unhappy with the gROM overclock)? I certainly am not going to try the Wifi hotspot again . . . has anyone managed to get it working with gROM?

Okay folks, any help would be appreciated. Using many of the extremely informative guides given here (and reading them pretty thoroughly), I recently updated my phone from unrooted ZVC to rooted ZVH with Xionia recovery, gROM 2.2, and GingerKernel 8.1. This worked fine for a few hours, but now the phone is stuck at the "LG" logo at power on, and I can't boot to the custom recovery. Am I screwed?

If it is helpful, I will list below exactly what I did to get to this point.

I first rooted ZVC using gingerbreak, installed Xionia recovery, and did a nandroid backup.

I then updated to stock ZVH using the following instructions:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...-how-rooting-ls670zvh-links-root-zvd-zv9.html

I then (re)installed Xionia recovery and did another nandroid backup.

I then installed gROM 2.2 as directed in this thread:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...85-rom-grom-2-2-10-16-gb-flash-yes-flash.html

I then updated to GingerKernel version 8.1 linked in this thread:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...kernel-v08-1-oc-double-tapping-bug-fixed.html

I wiped the cache and the dalvik-cache before installing the new kernel, but did not do a "wipe data/factory reset". (I did do a "wipe data/factory reset" in the process of installing gROM, however).

I then restored many of my apps using Titanium Backup.

Everything seemed to be going swimmingly--no reboots, phone worked, mobile data worked, wifi worked, GPS worked, camera worked, full market, etc. I used the phone for probably six hours and it seemed really great.

I then tried to get wireless tethering working and that's where the problems started. Note that my battery had just been fully charged at the time I started down this road.

I first ran the "Wifi Tether" app included with gROM and a problem occurred--there was an error message when I tried turning it on (I did give it root when requested). Sadly I cannot recall the specific error, but I did look at it in the log, and it had something to do with being unable to access mobile data or something. I think I had to turn my Wifi back on after exiting the app.

I then tried the "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot" option in Menu-->Settings-->Wireless & networks. No dice. Got an odd-looking error about being unable to use mobile data, contact your wireless provider if this persists.

I then decided to try an app called Widgetsoid which provides a toggle for Wifi Hotspot that worked under ZVC. When I installed the widget, none of the controls were functional (they are "Power Control" style toggles). Since the gROM instructions mentioned that the phone had to be rebooted once after installing Power Control, I went ahead and rebooted the phone.

After a reboot, the Widgetsoid buttons were there as expected. However, pressing the button for the wifi hotspot did not work--it remained greyed out in a half-on state. My other devices did not see the hotspot. I tried turning Wifi back on, and that worked, but the system started throwing up errors about being unable to access mobile data.

Tried to reboot again. This time, the phone stuck at the "LG" logo. For many minutes.

I took out the battery, tried again. Same result: stuck on "LG" logo.

I took out the battery again, and tried firing up Xionia. No dice. Xionia did not launch, just that LG logo.

I've tried a few more times, both to boot gROM and to boot Xionia, and can't get past the LG logo.

I also tried removing the microSDHC, something that worked for me once when I had a problem with stock ZVC. No help there.

With no access to the custom recovery (or the stock recovery for that matter), I'm not sure what else I can do. Am I bricked?

Another question: if by some miracle I do eventually manage to get into Xionia, what is my best move? Should I try restoring the ZVH nandroid, or should I try wiping the cache and dalvik-cache and reflashing GingerKernel 8.1 first?

No, I did not do the "Menu>Privacy" wipe or try to use ROM Manager from the market--i.e., I paid attention to the "BRICK WARNING" stickies.

Thanks in advance, this is a great community.

GRom is based on 2.2? If so, 'Ginger'Kernel is for 2.3... As Drew said he never tested on 2.2

I have to agree with you, the version numbering with various Android components gets quite mixed up sometimes.

No, 2.2 is strictly the version number for gROM, and has nothing to do with the version of Android. As the OP in the thread I linked states:

gROM was designed to be a cleaned up Sprint Stock ROM based on the latest Gingerbead 2.3.3 release. It has been tweaked and tested. All apps in the ROM are up to date!

gROM actually ships with an older GingerKernel, version 6.2. Several commenters in the gROM thread suggested flashing 8.1 to fix certain problems.

I dunno, all we can really do is provide data points. The combination seems to be working wonderfully, except when it comes to wifi tethering.
