Why don't you give it a try? Its not really any better, in terms of performance but it does have a different theme and will save you some storage

If u use just wi fi I was gonna try this when I lose service and use it for wi fi

On the other hand ginger rom is a VERY NICE AND STABLE rom. No problems as far as I noticed when ever I'm on zvj baseband I flash it run for a couple weeks and eventually go back to ics. . . .........

No. Cm9+zvj=no data.

No. It doesn't really matter what rom you flash on what baseband if you don't have service. Just make sure you make a backup before trying it out and you'll be fine.

If its a wifi device, as used, you shouldn't recommend ICS. As many people still have problems.

I recommend trying Danterom as well. Looks sleek and Gingerbread performs well on the Optimus.
