How/why do people steal others work?

I just don't get why others would repost someone else's rom and say its theirs
Custom roms have the authors name all over it
So if your gonna open it up to edit THAT why not just make a custom rom????

Clearly they do it for the fame and fortune that comes along with ROM building.

They want people's respect. They also want the mantle of "Awesome Android Hacker", but don't want to put in the work and time commitment needed to actually make that a reality.

LOL, what? Granted I am far from a talented dev, but there is little of either. To me it is the work itself that is rewarding.
